The primary goal of the Senior Manager IT Data Operations role is to drive the efficient operation of all services and technologies within the Data Management and Analytics (DMA) Data Engineering (DE) and Operations department. Reporting to the Director of Data Engineering and Operations, this role oversees the management of the company's data infrastructure, including analytics platforms and database systems, while ensuring compliance with data management policies and meeting all operational SLA/SLOs. The Data Operations Manager leads a team of employees and contractors to operate these technologies, manage matrixed teams to drive project delivery, and influence cross-functional teams to foster continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities & Deliverables

Operational Excellence
    Oversee operations within DMA DE and Ops: Influence other teams to efficiently deliver services.
  • Drive continuous improvements: Ensure services and operations meet SLA/SLOs
  • Respond timely to incidents, compliance actions, and audits: Oversee smooth rollouts of project deliverables and enhancements into production
  • Provide regular, timely reporting: Keep stakeholders informed on operational performance.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Recruit, retain, and develop staff: Ensure the team has the necessary skills to operate technologies and deliver services
  • Mentor and coach staff: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and recognize employee contributions and achievements.
  • Establish and maintain a high-performance team: Utilize effective training, performance management, and career-development activities.
Collaboration and Security
  • Collaborate with Directors of Data Engineering and Business Intelligence: Define and measure SLAs, SLOs, and OKRs.
  • Work closely with IT Security: Address security concerns and manage environments according to security guidelines.
  • Oversee data security and quality: Ensure data in DMA systems is secure, accessible by role, and of high quality
  • Maintain regular communication with stakeholders: Understand needs and provide updates on operations, keeping leadership informed of incidents, issues, and project challenges.


Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (required)
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience managing engineering and administration of cloud and on-premises infrastructure, database, analytics and data ingestion/ETL technologies, including (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS), with demonstrated proficiency across multiple current technology disciplines (required)
  • Knowledge base and experience should include managing the operations of data engineering, data warehousing, analytics, BI/reporting ecosystems and applications (required)
  • Working knowledge of ITIL disciplines (preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, FERPA, GLBA, PCI, etc.) as they relate to data integrity and privacy (preferred)

  • Exceptional ability to identify and marshal resources: Execute actions effectively by leveraging available resources.
Technical Expertise
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Windows systems: Understanding of operating principles and programming best practices.
  • Deep understanding of SDLC: Expertise in Agile methodologies, project planning, estimating, and scheduling.
  • Proficient in cloud technologies: Hands-on experience with Azure services, including ADF, ADLS, Synapse, VM, SQL Server, and Eventhub.
Adaptability and Continuous Improvement
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement concepts: Practical knowledge of relevant methodologies and techniques.
  • Strong aptitude for acquiring and applying information: Ability to comprehend and utilize data related to Information Technology.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks: Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
