The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to solving complex healthcare challenges. Located within CMU's College of Engineering, the department emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biomedical sciences to address pressing medical and biological issues. The department is characterized by its focus on creating impactful technologies and therapies that improve patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.

The Abbott laboratory in BME is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on developing disease models using liver tissue engineering techniques. Required skills for the job include the ability to culture cells, fabricate human organoids containing multiple cell types, and experience with organoid characterization techniques (cell viability, metabolic assays, RNA-seq, lipidomics, and confocal imaging).

Core Responsibilities:

• Conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of department and university.
• Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
• Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
• Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate Degree required.
• Background in hepatic biology and interest in improving outcomes for liver transplantation is preferred.
• Ability to culture cells
• Ability to fabricate human organoids containing multiple cell types
• Experience with organoid characterization techniques
• A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
