1st Shift

Position Summary: The position of Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist performs a variety of functions to assist in maintaining and preserving the health and safety of employees as well as the environment. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of existing systems related to plant safety, environmental control processes, regulatory compliance, and training.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Regular on-site attendance is a necessary function of this position.
  • Leads accident investigations.
  • Act as workers compensation administrator for specified location.
  • Ensures compliance with Hazardous/Universal Waste regulations.
  • Schedules range decontamination by 3rd party vendor.
  • Provides safety training as required including hazard communications, new employee safety orientation, lead awareness, hearing conservation, radiation safety, laser safety, hazardous waste, fire extinguisher, CRP and first aid, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Notify employees and track annual testing requirements including audiograms and blood lead testing.
  • Performs annual industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Implementation and enforcement of company safety policies.
  • May complete fire extinguisher and eyewash inspections.
  • May perform SPCC/SWPP inspection duties.
  • May lead Safety Committee meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with Hazard communications by updating SDS.
  • May hold position of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and implements radiation safety program.
  • May hold position of Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and implements laser safety program.
  • Ensures compliance with DOD 4145.26-M Contractors Safety Manual for Ammunition and Explosives and leads Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) inspections.
  • Emergency coordinator: must be able to respond within one hour of
  • Procures personal protective equipment as needed to sustain operations.
  • Performs various office functions and other duties as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal EHS regulations including but not limited to OSHA, NHDES, EPA, Health and Human Services, NRC, DOT, DOL.
  • Organize training and compliance for heavy equipment operators where applicable.
  • Work with employees to maintain environmental management procedures and pollution prevention protocols.
  • Maintain Respirator Program, Lead Exposure safety program, Hearing Conservation, Dust Hazard Assessments, and many other OSHA-related programs.
  • Maintain existing environmental permits such as for Air emissions, wastewater discharge and recommend amendments when appropriate.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • Bachelor's Degree in EH&S and/or equivalent degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7+ years' experience in the environmental health and safety field.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand directions and work instructions in English.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Results driven individual who has demonstrated the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Displays a customer focused work ethic with the ability to interact with all levels of employees.


Working Conditions:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
