Department Overview
As a security first organization, Technology Delivery Services (TDS) is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The TDS teams include Information Security, Planning (architecture and PMO), Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services teams. We maintain an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.

Position Summary
Responsible for designing, building, deploying, and maintaining the IT infrastructure applications using the latest technology. Administer, manage and improve on-prem and cloud-based email applications and/or services such as Office 365, AWS Simple Email Service (SES), Entra ID and Data Loss Prevention. Collaborate with team members to provide Tier 2 and 3 support for additional infrastructure applications such as Box, Citrix and OnBase. Recognize security threats and actively implement prevention or mitigation controls. As a member of a security first organization, must monitor critical vendor communication and respond to security incidents as they arise, which may include weekends, holidays and non-working hours. Collaborates, defines, sets, implements and enforces standards and policies.

Key Responsibilities

60% Microsoft 365 System Administration (Email) and AWS Simple Email Service (SES). Installs, customizes, tests and implements the supported applications, servers, and utility programs based on design documents. Provides Tier 2 and 3 technical support and analysis for technical solutions. Addresses high complexity and high-risk requests in a timely and professional manner using discretion as needed.

30% Applies advanced systems/infrastructure concepts to perform highly complex technical functions. Proposes and implements highly complex system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance, security and reliability of the supported systems. Analyzes, acquires, installs, and supports applications, systems, and utilities required for supported systems. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Implement security patches and updates as necessary and in a timely fashion.

5% Attend training sessions, classes and demonstrations when offered. Supplement existing knowledge and skills through technical journals, manuals and other resources. Support other prioritized organization initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule as required.

5% Produce documentation as need for complex tasks so others can replicate.

Experience
Required Qualifications

  • Min 8 years of IT Operations experience and/or system administration experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner to meet business needs.
  • Team player that can collaborate with all levels of UCOP organization.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team while embracing diverse perspectives of others.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to create M365 Security and Compliance related technologies including sensitive labels and Data Loss Prevention policies.
  • Highly developed knowledge and experience with Windows organization and commands.
  • Experience using PowerShell or similar scripting language.
  • Strong understanding and application of SPF (Sender Policy Framework), DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) and DMARC (Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) records.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Secure Score and know how to improve it.
  • Understanding of Phishing, Impersonation and Spoofing attacks and how to handle them.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team of IT professionals.
  • Experience supporting AWS Simple Email Service (SES), Box, Citrix, OnBase and Entra ID.

Payscale: $144,000 - $168,000

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
