FSEC is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to participate in an Industry Innovation Program (IIP) in collaboration with Duke Energy to develop Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) systems for grid integration. Particularly, the optimal design and integration of green hydrogen energy system with solar and peaker plants will be investigated to address grid fluctuations/grid resiliency. Knowledge of commercial process modeling and optimization software (Pyomo, Matlab, Aspen Plus, gPROMS, ect.) is desired.
The areas of interest include but not limited to: * Electrochemical hydrogen production and consumption * Dynamic modeling, control and optimization of integrated energy systems * Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and flexible operation of energy systems * Data-driven modeling, uncertainty quantification and optimization of systems design and process synthesis * Machine learning, Reinforcement learning and AI applications in energy systems

The candidate will work closely with FSEC's industry partner Duke Energy and other UCF energy institutes, e.g., Renewable Energy and Chemical Transformations (REACT) cluster and the Center for advanced Turbomachinery & Energy Research (CATER) to dynamic modeling, control and optimization of the integrated hydrogen energy system including hydrogen production and consumption as a grid asset to improve its reliability and flexibility under high penetration of renewable energy.

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate will work closely with FSEC's industry partner Duke Energy and other UCF energy institutes, e.g., Renewable Energy and Chemical Transformations (REACT) cluster and the Center for advanced Turbomachinery & Energy Research (CATER) to dynamic modeling, control and optimization of the integrated hydrogen energy system including hydrogen production and consumption as a grid asset to improve its reliability and flexibility under high penetration of renewable energy.

Preferred Qualifications: Large-scale energy system optimization using Pyomo/Python * Dynamic modeling and advanced control of power plant and electrochemical process (e.g., fuel cell, electrolyzer, electrochemical compression) using Apsen/gPROMS/COMSOL *Techno-economic analysis and optimization of integrated energy systems * Data driven modeling and uncertainty quantification
