Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to enable NKU to maintain and build on its history of regional and national impact in the Informatics fields, ensuring that the university, including the new Norse Network Hub, has sufficient outreach leadership and staffing in the college to serve regional needs, enhance the university's distinctive and differentiating outreach strengths in crucial fields such as cybersecurity, media, AI, data science, and communication, and bring in revenue to support and grow meaningful external engagements.
Primary Responsibilities

  • The Director will be responsible for executing and elevating strategy and tactics around outreach initiatives; building, maintaining, and strengthening partnerships in collaboration with the Norse Network Hub and other university units; facilitating faculty R&D, creative, and professional ed engagements in the community, including informatics symposia; coordinating K-12 outreach; and helping NKU elevate its service to the region by accentuating its unique strengths in media and tech.

  • The Director will be responsible for systematic planning and reporting on COI outreach, working closely with the College Advisory Board as well as advisory councils of the two COI Schools. Internally the Director will coordinate efforts with other colleges and centers, and other NKU entities as appropriate.

  • The Director reports to the dean of the college and serves as the supervisor of the Manager of Communications, Events, and Administration.

  • As a member of the college leadership team, generate and execute innovative strategies and tactics around informatics outreach, with particular emphasis on initiatives that directly connect to student success, serve the region, elevate the profile of the university, and generate revenue.

  • Plan, build programming, engage faculty and corporate stakeholders, bring sponsors for, and execute large annual revenue-generating informatics symposia, such as the Cybersecurity Symposium and the Digital Transformation Symposium, working with other colleges (e.g. Chase Law for CLE at the Cyber Symposium) and the Norse Network Hub as appropriate.

  • Work with the School of Media and Communication, the School of Computing and Analytics, and the Informatics Student Success and Advising Center to plan, coordinate, and/or manage externally focused programs arising from those COI units, such as corporate hackathons in informatics fields or capstones in informatics degree in coordination with other college and centers as appropriate.

  • Lead annual and long-term planning, assessment, and reporting on the outreach work of the College of Informatics.

  • Ensure that K12 experiential engagements with the College of Informatics, whether originating from NKU, the COI or its partners, or local schools, run smoothly and successfully, developing hands-on activities, demonstrations, and showcase programs as needed. Ensure Griffin Hall space and technology resources for such programs are well-matched. Represent the COI at informatics-focused off-campus talent.

  • Serve as the logistics lead on visits by delegations from the COI's international academic partners, working with the dean's office, the schools, and the NKU Center for Global Engagement and International Affairs as appropriate.

  • Participate in meetings of the COI Advisory Board and engage with the advisory councils of the two COI schools, leveraging these stakeholders and their organizations to advance student and faculty success and execute large scale projects as appropriate.

  • Enhance partnerships around informatics-related projects with nonprofit or government groups for the community good, engaging faculty as needed, bringing in other NKU units as appropriate.

  • Ensure that external communications for the college are widely disseminated, compelling, and correct, working with the COI Manager of Communication, Events, and Administration and NKU Marketing and Communications office.

  • Like all members of the college's Leadership Team, contribute to visioning, strategic thinking, and problem solving for College of Informatics as a whole. Be available to serve on university task forces and committees as needed.

Qualifications
Master's Degree (preferred) in a field that aligns with the schools within the College of Informatics such as communication, media, technology or related fields. Bachelor's Degree will be considered with extensive relevant experience. Seven years required experience with an MA and 10 years extensive relevant experience with a bachelor's degree.
