JOB TITLE:

Classification Compensation Consultant

JOB PURPOSE:

Assist with the development and implementation of effective classification and compensation strategies that align with the university's mission and strategic goals. Collaborate with various departments to ensure equitable and competitive compensation practices, enhance employee satisfaction and attract and retain top talent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct comprehensive job analysis and classification to create and maintain position descriptions, establish pay ranges, assess exemption status and recommend organizational structures. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, providing data-driven recommendations for staffing and compensation adjustments.
  • Contribute to HR projects, offering expertise in compensation strategy and change management. Participate in cross-functional initiatives that align with HR's mission and the University's goals. Support the implementation of strategic compensation initiatives that drive organizational change.
  • Utilize data analytics to analyze compensation trends, salary structures, and recommend adjustments based on market research and internal equity assessments.
  • Serve as a key resource on classification and compensation, providing strategic guidance and support to departments, liaisons, and campus leaders. Offer training and tools to ensure adherence to best practices and alignment with the University's short- and long-term objectives. Advise on compensation-related matters to address organizational needs effectively and maintain compliance with institutional standards.
  • Leverage HRIS and compensation-related software to query data, maintain records, and ensure system integrity. Understand how data entry affects reporting, compliance, and compensation management.
  • Manage annual compensation cycles, including salary surveys and regular reviews of salary structures and pay ranges. Ensure timely execution and accurate reporting of cyclical compensation activities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and strategic guidance to campus, liaisons, and department leaders to ensure compensation programs align with the University's short- and long-term objectives. Advise on compensation-related matters to ensure organizational needs are met.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Keep apprised of and maintain knowledge of national and state HR and compensation laws, regulations, market trends and best practices.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Finance or a related field

Experience: 4 years of experience in compensation analysis, job classification or a related HR function

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: Professional certifications in HR or compensation (e.g., CCP, PHR, SPHR) are highly desirable

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing HRIS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle HCM) for data analysis, reporting, and compensation management.
  • Experience working with compensation-related software and salary survey tools (e.g., CUPA-HR, PayScale, ERI).
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic compensation guidance to senior leadership, departmental liaisons, and campus partners.
  • Experience developing and delivering training and tools related to job classification, compensation best practices, and compliance.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to different audiences.
  • Experience supporting change management initiatives, including compensation strategy shifts, organizational restructuring, or policy implementation.
