Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for nursing care at a unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Implements unit objectives and administrative policies. This position is under clinical supervision of the Unit Director of Nurses.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Makes daily assignments as appropriate and ensures all daily assignments are accomplished.
  • Oversees sick call process and reviews reminders to ensure ATC is met for his/her department.
  • Reviews PTM reports to ensure processes are followed for his/her department.
  • Supports the goal of the unit by attending meetings and sharing the information with the staff in regular staff meetings.
  • Responds to emergencies. Performs advanced technical procedures and skills.
  • Supervises ICN and compliance with set policies.
  • Oversees Trusty Camp pill window.
  • Maintains appropriate supplies and equipment.

In addition to the base position compensation, we offer shift differential pay for night and weekend shifts:
Registered Nurse Shift Differential:
  • Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Night Shift Employees:
    • Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday.
    • Earn an extra $8.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.


Required Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Two years of nursing experience, with at least 6 months of that experience as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a valid, current RN license as approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners.
