We provide focused and specialized multi-disciplinary services to architects, building owners, developers, contractors, product manufacturers and attorneys. For over 50 years we have offered comprehensive professional services for building enclosures, including professional service evaluations; forensic investigations; traditional and specialized system and component design; construction quality management; peer review; maintenance evaluations; pre-purchase assessments; existing facility evaluation and design; construction dispute support; and consultation in building enclosures and building sciences.
Working with us, you will:
- Work in specialized areas of technical design, evaluation and testing for exterior building enclosure systems: including roofs, walls, windows, curtain walls, skylights, and waterproofing.
- Perform work on both existing and new construction for most building types throughout the USA (the Building Technology Studio provides services to all SmithGroup offices as well as other architects, manufacturers, owners and contractors and materials manufacturers).
- Assist in model making, either by hand or through digital means.
- Operate with new computational tools, modeling, and evaluation processes for energy efficient design.
- Review and understand basic architectural or engineering concepts, as well as building code concepts.
- Receive mentorship from experienced design professionals.
- Visit a construction site(s) and/or completed project sites.
An ideal candidate has:
- Completed at least their sophomore year or actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Educational or prior professional work experience using Revit and familiarity with software such as Rhino, Sketch-up, Photoshop, Bluebeam, Adobe Illustrator, or InDesign and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Intent to establish an NCARB Record and eligibility to participate in the Architectural Experience Program to earn professional licensure or completion of the Fundamentals in Engineering examination preferred.
- Interest in building science, building enclosures, or building enclosure testing and experimentation.
- Interest and/or experience participating in field surveys, forensic investigations, and testing.
- Interest in participation in local professional association events or other educational sessions to upgrade industry knowledge, business knowledge, and/or acquire new skills.
