Position Summary:

The Director of Patient Care Services - Orthopedics leads, directs, and manages high-performance teams with accountability for operations, quality, customer service, and the success of the Orthopedic service line. This role oversees areas of high volume and significant strategic and financial impact on the current and future success of Sentara Hospitals.

The Director is responsible for coordinating the delivery of high-quality services that meet or exceed customer expectations. This includes developing, marketing, and strategically planning new and existing services across multiple hospitals. The Director contributes to the success of departments and product lines through the achievement of System, Hospital, and divisional goals.

This role involves setting the vision and culture, fostering ownership, and driving process improvements to create sustainable, value-added services. Additionally, the Director provides leadership and administers fiscal, corporate, and human resource policies and practices in a multi-skilled, multi-functional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute strategies to grow and enhance orthopedic services across the system.
  • Program Development: Drive the design and implementation of innovative programs to support high-quality patient care.
  • Best Practices: Identify and integrate evidence-based practices to improve efficiency, quality, and outcomes.
  • Operational Collaboration: Partner with hospital leaders to ensure alignment with system-wide goals and operational success.
  • Value Analysis: Evaluate contracts, pricing, and supplies to optimize resources and achieve cost efficiencies.
  • Quality Improvement: Strategize and execute initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service satisfaction.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with clinical teams, administrative staff, and external partners.
  • Leadership: Inspire and guide teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field preferred (Bachelor's degree with additional experience may substitute).
  • Consideration given to candidates with administrative residency or interim leadership experience.
  • Proven success in program development, quality improvement, and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic services, value analysis, and supply chain management preferred.

  • Strategic thinking and program development expertise.
  • Leadership, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Financial acumen and experience in value analysis and contract negotiation.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Job Summary

Bachelor's level degree and two years additional experience may be considered in lieu of Masters degree. Consideration given to Administrative Residency experience and internal interim leadership
