TECHNICIAN - SARALAND, AL
POSITION
SUMMARY
Provide instrumentation
and electrical support to the three Matheson Tri-Gas Steam Methane
Reforming Hydrogen plants in Saraland AL, McIntosh and Pensacola, FL with a
strong focus on critical safety systems and system reliability. The
jobholder will be based at Saraland, AL reporting to the Site Manager but will
also have responsibilities for the other two locations working collaboratively
with the Instrument Technician at Pensacola, FL. Perform calibrations,
troubleshooting and repairs as required
in an operational process facility with a focus on personal and
site safety.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS
Contribute to team awareness of
co-worker and personal safety through proper work habits, good housekeeping
skills, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
Pressure
Instruments- Work in shop and field to adjust and calibrate pressure measuring
and recording devices. Adjust and
calibrate pressure-measuring devices, repair and replace damaged parts.
Temperature
Instruments- Work in shop and field to adjust and calibrate temperature
measuring and recording devices. Adjust and calibrate temperature-measuring
devices, and repair and replace damaged parts.
Level
Measurements- Work in shop and field to adjust and calibrate level measuring
and recording devices. Adjust and calibrate level measuring devices, repair and
replace damaged parts.
Flow
Measuring and Control- Work in shop and field on repair, adjustment, calibration,
and inspection of flow measuring and control instruments. Mechanical and
electrical devices. Variable orifice-fixed orifice-volumetric. Computation of
flow data, flow of solids in suspension.
Instrument
Mechanisms- Repair, adjust and replace worn parts, gears, racks segments,
hairsprings, jewel bearings, and clock works. Repair and replace electrical
contacts and coils. Repair hydraulically operated valves, diaphragm valves, and
solenoid operated valves.
Control Valves and Devices- Shop
and fieldwork in the adjustment of control valves, involving diaphragms,
hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic valves, floats, and dampers. Adjustment of
pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls.
Remove,
install, clean, calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot electrical,
instrumentation and distributed control equipment throughout the facility
safely and professionally. Equipment may include various transmitters,
positioners, transducers, meters, relays, switches, instruments, systems and
devices.
Troubleshoot
electrical and instrumentation issues including switchgears, control panels,
transmitters, control valves, transformers, relays, motor starters, breakers,
control wiring and UPS systems.
Troubleshoot
analyzer issues. Perform routine analyzer maintenance.
Electronic
Maintenance and Troubleshooting- Service and maintain all electronic equipment
as well as familiarizing oneself with the equipment they service. Be able to
use the necessary test equipment to service this equipment. This will include
drive systems, programmable controllers, microprocessors, recorders, counters,
speed indicators, process control type equipment, and any and all other
electronic equipment in the plant.
Maintenance
of pneumatic and motor operated valves and actuators.
Read
and understand various single line, 3 line, electrical, pneumatic, piping and
instrumentation diagrams and drawings.
Knowledge of plant equipment including
transmitters and control valves.
Working knowledge of electrical arc flash and
shock hazards (NFPA 70E) with the ability to select the proper Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) for the task.
Maintain safe and reliable operations by performing
installation, inspection calibration, configuration, maintenance, diagnostics, associated
documentation, technical support, and training.
Support covers a broad spectrum of motor
controls, pneumatic controls, AC/DC controls, instrumentation and various communication protocols.
Takes a logical approach to troubleshooting.
Applies solid working knowledge and
experience to solve moderately complex problems with supervision.
Assists Regional Management in execution
of Electrical and Instrumentation duties at other Matheson locations during
Plant Turnaround or in assisting resolution of reliability concerns.
The candidate should possess good
communication and interpersonal skills and be able to interface frequently with
c customers
(primarily internal but some external customer communications will be required).
The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively alongside the
Instrument Technician at Pensacola,
FL to develop and expand their working knowledge of electrical and
instrumentation processes. They must endeavor to complete work assignments and training
allocated to enable their effective growth.
The candidate will be
expected to provide
Call-In Vacation coverage
where needed of the Instrument Technician at Pensacola, FL and respond
to emergency events at that location should they occur.
The candidate must
possess, or be willing to acquire, a working knowledge of the hydrogen steam
methane reformation process.
The candidate must be willing
to be on call and should expect a minimum of 10% overtime.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES
Performs all of the
administrative and reporting tasks of the position including:
Maintains operating and
maintenance history for equipment as required
Prepares and maintains
documentation of work orders, service reports and equipment calibrations
Ensures spare parts are
available or replaced when used / installed
Plans and coordinates
contractors to site when needed
Organize and maintains
a neat, clean and orderly workspace, and contribute to these ideals
throughout the site
Provide relief shift
operations control room coverage as required to support vacation schedules and other events

QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated
Experience
Eight years of
relevant experience within a technical discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or
Instrumentation).
Trade/Technical
degree or apprenticeship in a related field.
HS
diploma/equivalency required.
Competent
understanding of electricity and electrical theory.
Experience of PLC
and DCS preferred, especially Emerson (Delta V)
Proficient
computer skills, including communications protocols, Microsoft Office standard
version, and suitable device software applications
Demonstrated
initiative and drive with ability to multitask and prioritize.
Strong
troubleshooting Skills
Strong personal
safety philosophy
Must be team
oriented and have a willingness to learn and further develop technical skills
in this position.
WORK
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 8 Years in an
Industrial setting with increasing responsibility in a Plant Maintenance role
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, ABILITIES
Math - basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion.
Personal computer proficiency (Internet, Word processing, Excel
spreadsheets), and other software used by the company.
Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy.
Strong interpersonal abilities to support mentoring/coaching activities.
Strong organizational ability.
