Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home. HBC is located within the College of Medicine and is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a University in United States.

The Hoxworth Division of Research, is recruiting for a full-time (100 % FTE) Post Doc Fellow position in the laboratory of Dr. Xuefeng Wang, at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. Within Wang's lab, there is a strong commitment to nurturing lab members' growth and development. Three out of five postdoctoral alumni from Wang's lab have successfully secured faculty positions, highlighting our dedication to cultivating academic careers.

The successful candidate will join a team to conduct research in the study of cell mechanobiology and enzymology, with an emphasis in the biomechanical behaviors of blood cells, immune cells, and cancer cells. Using cutting-edge biosensors and microfluidics,The researcher will delve into understanding cellular forces during critical processes such as cell adhesion, platelet aggregation, and macrophage-mediated phagocytosis. The appointed postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for either developing new methods or exploring biomedical applications within this captivating realm of mechanobiology.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

PhD in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, or related field.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience in cell culture, common cell biology assays, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Prior experience in the studies of platelets, neutrophils or macrophages.
  • Prior experience in biosensor/microfluidics development
