General Information:

The Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Assistant Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination and implementation of the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education program, funded by the Virginia Department of Health. The SRAE initiative is a collaborative effort that emphasizes principles of positive youth development and optimal health emphasizing abstinence, communication, education and career success, healthy life skills and adolescent development in order to significantly reduce teen pregnancies in the Harrisonburg City and Page County areas of Virginia. The SRAE program is part of SexEdVA at the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at JMU. To learn more about SexEdVA, visit www.sexedva.org.

This is an 11-month, full-time position with a recurring rest period of July 10th - August 9th.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assist Program Manager in implementation of SRAE programming, dissemination, and recruitment efforts.

* Serve as a liaison to schools and community partners to coordinate programming.

* Facilitate the Teen Outreach Program and Project AIM to participating community-based sites. Co-facilitate Teen Speak programming with parents.

* Ensure accurate and timely data collection for all evidence based programs as required by Virginia Department of Health, prepare materials for club meetings and activities,
conduct orientation meetings to parents and community about Project AIM.

Qualifications:

* Knowledge of adolescent development and best practices in teen pregnancy prevention.
* Ability to lead collaboration among team members, engage in public speaking, compose reports and organize presentations.
* Ability to work with youth, families, and outside youth agencies to facilitate youth programming, plan effective public health education programs, and implement health education programs.
* Must possess good oratory, organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills.
* General computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
