CTL Student Learning Assistance is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes. Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners. Writing tutors are committed to helping students become more proficient writers. They provide support to students enrolled in a variety of courses at UNM. Writing tutors help others in different stages of undergraduate writing, including organizing, revising, drafting, outlining, or brainstorming. Writing tutors provide helpful feedback and guidance on writing, mechanics, grammar, and style, but do not edit or write for others. Writing tutors may occasionally provide writing workshops upon request. As a member of the CTL team, student staff attend weekly or biweekly training focused on writing-specific content and tutoring practices, which are designed to make student staff effective facilitators of student learning. Writing applicants from all majors and disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applicants are asked to submit a writing sample of their choice that they feel best represents their work as a writer.
