What Your Job Will Be Like:

Join a dynamic team that tackles challenging issues for the nation's security! Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) professional with experience in implementing ES&H requirements within a complex technical environment. In this role, you will be instrumental in building a strong and healthy safety culture at the Labs. This fast-paced position offers a diverse range of ES&H projects and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist management in implementing and ensuring ES&H performance and compliance with corporate safety initiatives and regulatory/policy updates

• Identify and analyze hazards and risks that may create unsafe work environments

• Develop, implement, and communicate organization-specific ES&H policies, processes, hazard controls, and tools to enhance safety practices

• Perform technical analyses and evaluations, advising management on practices to resolve ES&H performance and compliance issues

• Conduct regular facility and work area walk-throughs and inspections to assess safety conditions

• Review work plans and hazard controls to determine their reliability and effectiveness

• Develop and implement risk mitigation plans and strategies to address identified hazards

• Provide support during ES&H audits and assessments, as well as during ES&H-related events, occurrences, or emergencies, ensuring they are adequately investigated, tracked, and corrected.

• Document and report concerns, findings, and non-compliance issues in corporate data systems and appropriate channels

• Compile and analyze data from incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify causes or trends in support of investigations and ongoing prevention efforts

• Cultivate effective communication and relationships with organization leadership, the ES&H organization, and the ES&H Coordinator community

Salary Range:

$99,400 - $193,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical or ES&H discipline; or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience, plus (5) or more years of professional staff-level experience in an ES&H related role

• Experience recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards

• Familiarity with OSHA or other regulatory disciplines

• The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

• Professional certification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist)

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to meet and adapt to changing deadlines and priorities

• Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations, DOE Orders, NFPA Code, ANSI standards and DOE Standards

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, teaming, and communication skills to work with a cross-functional team in a dynamic and sometimes stressful environment

• Experience with hazardous operations and controls including the following but not limited to: electrical, explosives, construction, maintenance, etc

• Experience in work planning & control processes, hazard analysis, and hazard control mitigation methods

• Ability to compile and analyze data from incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify causes or trends in support of continuous improvement and ongoing prevention efforts

• Previous experience at a Department of Energy or Research and Development facility

About Our Team:

Department 4637 provides ES&H coordinator support to Division 4000 (Infrastructure and Security Operations) and 6000 (Global Security). The goal of this organization is to effectively integrate safety into daily operations. Department personnel support and facilitate the implementation of ES&H requirements and processes and assist in the identification and analysis of any hazards, threats and risks which may create an unsafe worksite. We collaborate with ES&H subject matter experts to translate corporate policy requirements into line implementation plans and to formulate engineering and administrative controls to mitigate hazards, threats and risks. The department also supports assurance activities through self-assessments, causal analysis, and performance monitoring.

Our approach is positive, proactive, and encompasses the life cycle of operational activities. The end goal is to enable line management to execute mission objectives while balancing the needs for operational excellence.

Security Clearance:
