Department Summary

Pathology Lab Research & Early Development (PLRED) identifies, evaluates and matures technologies for Pathology Lab and Oncology Diagnostic applications. We are a multi-disciplinary team with a broad range of scientific and engineering experience and skills.

This internship position is located in Tucson, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • This project involves developing an immersive training application for the Apple Vision Pro headset. The application will provide guidance for users interacting with our medical devices. Using augmented reality overlays, the app will display instructional arrows, text, and videos (or other indicators) on or around the real instrument to guide users through key workflows and real-world use cases.

  • The intern will deliver a functional prototype XR app that overlays instructional content onto the medical device.

  • This project provides hands-on experience with XR development, combining software engineering and real-world applications, and working as part of a small Agile engineering team.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).

- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a Master's Degree.

- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a PhD.

Required Majors: Open to any Science/Engineering major that has required technical skills/knowledge.

Required Skills:

  • Experience or familiarity with Unity for XR/AR development.

  • Proficiency in C# and software development practices.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to create interactive user experiences.

  • Demonstrated experience of development for extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Basic knowledge of iOS development and development using Apple Vision Pro SDK.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Arizona is $45.00-$50.00 hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
