Job Description

Pay: $18- $24 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8am - 4:30pm; some evenings, occasional weekends

This full-time position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Life/Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Flexible Spending Accounts, Long Term Disability, and several voluntary supplemental benefit offerings. In addition, these positions are eligible for paid time off in the form of vacation, sick, holiday, jury duty and bereavement leave. JOB SUMMARY:

The Excel Center is the first Free in-person High School for adult learners 22 years of age and older in Colorado who have not earned a high school diploma.

The Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional at The Excel Center of Colorado plays a vital role in supporting the academic and personal growth of adult learners. This position involves working closely with teachers to provide instructional support, assist with classroom management, and help create a positive learning environment for students pursuing their high school diploma. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, and committed to helping adult learners succeed. The position will work with the instructional team in meeting the educational objectives and adhering to the Colorado State Standards.

This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision, and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Colorado. This is a full-time, year-round, in-person position at our school located in Aurora, Colorado. Applicants must reside in Colorado and work from the Aurora facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Assist Lead teacher with lesson planning, preparation, and delivery.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to reinforce learning objectives.
  • Help students understand and complete assignments, projects, and assessments.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) for students.
  • Support teachers in maintaining a positive and organized classroom environment.
  • Monitor students and enforce school policies and procedures.
  • Assist in managing classroom supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Build positive relationships with students, encouraging participation, and persistence in their studies.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in overcoming barriers to learning.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating classroom activities, workshops, and special events.
  • Assist with grading assignments, entering grades, and maintaining student records.
  • Help with attendance tracking and other classroom-related administrative tasks.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrative staff to support student needs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational practices and trends.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.
  • Assist with data entry into Student Information System (SIS).
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:



  • A High school diploma or equivalent is required; An Associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • Certification as a Paraprofessional is a plus.


Experience:



  • Previous experience working in an educational setting, preferably with adult learners, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in tutoring, mentoring, or providing instructional support is a plus.


Other:



  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred.

  • Organizational Aptitude: Plans and attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing multiple tasks in an organized and timely fashion. Exhibits careful attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Technical Knowledge: Has working knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office, as well as student Information Systems.
  • Informed Decision-Making: Identifies and comprehends issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.
  • Information Monitoring/Reporting/Design: Creates, collects, reviews, and maintains information to manage or improve the achievement of learning goals.
  • Adaptability: Maintains effectiveness when experiencing shifts in priorities; adjusts effectively while maintaining a positive learning environment.


*Per contract requirements with vehicle insurance provider: Qualified candidates must be 21 years of age and have no major traffic violations for previous 3 years (for driving/insurance purposes). Must have reliable transportation; must also be able to operate company vehicle.
