Title: Data Technician - Systems of Care

Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan

Occasional In-Person Meetings Required

Purpose: This position will support the systems of care registry including monitoring and supporting access, data collection, completeness and accuracy with a focus on metrics that support highway traffic safety, post-crash care and outcomes. The position is responsible to interface with frontline staff to troubleshoot access issues, password resets and to move issues up the chain as needed, to assist with data abstraction and reporting.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Function as support staff for the State SOC registry work led by the State Trauma Registry Administrator and the Systems of Care Epidemiologist.
  • Monitor data collection from designated trauma facilities, assist registry users, support data quality and timeliness of submissions.
  • Provide support for metrics collected that reflect post- crash care, outcomes and injury prevention initiatives related to vehicular injury.
  • Participate in the development of trainings and related materials, assisting with data abstraction for analysis and report writing, and frequent interaction with users and stakeholders.


  • Perform administrative support for the SOC registry.
  • Monitor registry users, provide access support as described in policy and SOP.
  • Monitor data submissions for timeliness, accuracy, completeness.
  • Abstract data metrics as directed related to motor vehicle incidents, post-crash care and injury prevention.
  • Support registry trainings, webinars, development of print materials and reports.


  • Participate in collaborative Office of Highway Safety grantee meetings.
  • Promote opportunities for improved customer relations.
  • Attend conferences, participate in workgroups, and represent the Section as appropriate.
  • Develop and/or maintain good working relationships with the public and associations which will assist in carrying out the vision.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  • All other duties as assigned.



Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major or two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional. Healthcare experience/knowledge preferred, Hospital or Emergency Department experience is also desirable.

Important Skills and Characteristics:



  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, comfortable dealing with a range of professionals.
  • Organized, able to multitask and shift priorities quickly and under some stress, self- directed.
  • Proficient in MS Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong time management skills, able to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn Michigan's trauma and emergency medical services system including agencies, hospitals, Medical Control Authorities, and personnel, Part 209 of Act 368 of 1978 as amended.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements: This position is a remote role requiring occasional in-person mandatory meetings. Standard office environment. Job may require moderate physical effort such as lifting or transporting a laptop computer. Involves significant computer related activity including keyboarding and viewing a computer screen, in addition to communication by telephone. The office for this position is located at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Emergency Preparedness, EMS and Systems of Care Division of EMS, and Systems of Care, 1001 Terminal Rd. Lansing MI 48909.



RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility.

IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: The section will function as the primary Department Section for the planning, organization, direction, control, and management of Michigan's SOC for trauma, stroke and STEMI. This position will serve as support for the SOC registry and support activities related to the implementation of an all-inclusive system.
