GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides medical services to assigned patients under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. Responsible for providing care to surgical patients, including but not limited to: pre-operative consultations, first-assisting in the operating room, post-operative management; conducting and/or interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests; prescription of pharmacologic agents and nonpharmacologic therapies; and teaching and counseling individuals and groups.

Practices autonomously and in collaboration with other health care professionals to diagnose, treat and manage health problems.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Performs all duties within the scope of practice for the perioperative patient including patient consults, care rounds and first-assisting in surgery.

3. *Assists with surgical emergencies.

4. *Conducts patient assessments to include: obtaining a relevant health and medical history; performing a physical examination based on age and history; performing or ordering preventive and diagnostic procedures based on the patient's age and history; and identifing health and medical risk factors.

5. *Diagnoses patients by synthesizing and analyzing the collected data; formulates a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination and diagnostic test results.

6. *Identifies and implements a patient treatment plan which may include ordering additional diagnostic tests; selects appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions; develops a patient education plan; makes appropriate treatment referrals.

7. *Performs therapeutic procedures in the office; excision of lesions, incision and drainage of abscesses, draining seroma's, wound suturing and dressing changes, etc.; monitors progress of patients, reports progress to supervising physician and maintains record of patient's progress.

8. *Performs cosmetic/aesthetic procedures in the office; injection of neurotoxins & dermal fillers, SkinPen treatments, skin care consultations, skin peels, microdermabrasion, etc.; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician and maintains record of patient's progress.

9. *Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.

10. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.

11. *Implements patient care plans based on scientific principles, theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise; accurately conducts and interprets diagnostic tests; accurately prescribes pharmacologic agents and nonpharmacologic therapies; makes referrals to other health professionals and community agencies as needed.

12. *Determines the effectiveness of patient treatment plans; documents patient care outcomes; reassesses and modifies treatment plans as necessary to achieve health and medical goals.

13. Triages patient telephone calls as needed, providing consultation.

14. Participates as a team member in the provision of health and medical care; interacts and collaborates with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care.

15. *Accurately documents patient findings, treatment plans and evaluations; documents interventions appropriately to ensure coding compliance for reimbursement purposes.

16. *Maintains patient confidentiality per departmental and facility protocols and procedures.

17. Participates in continuing education and maintains professional certifications and affiliations.

18. Shares in call with other members of the patient care team.

19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

20. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of a program for Physician Assistants that is accredited by the college of medicine and surgery and approved by the Nebraska Board of Examiners and Surgery is required. Current Physician Assistant licensure from the State of Nebraska required. Integrated practice agreement with the medical provider as required by Nebraska State law. A minimum of one (1) year experience as a Physician Assistant preferred. A minimum of three (3) years surgery experience is preferred. Completion of the Bryan Physician Network credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment.

OR

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Master of Science degree in Nursing with focus in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required. Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required. Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by examination through the National Certification Corporation required. A minimum of one (1) year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
