JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Vice President, Chief Information Officer Health System is responsible for all information and data integrity matters for the UT Southwestern Health System. The Associate Vice President, Chief Information Officer Health System will report to the Vice President for Information Resources and CIO of UT Southwestern and work closely with the Executive Team & Senior Leadership. S/he will partner with senior leadership within Information Resources to develop and drive information technology strategies across UT Southwestern. S/he will lead and coach a staff of technology professionals, creating a high-performing team, and will also lead and coach others in the organization in maximizing efficiency via the use of technology-based systems and processes. S/he must adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-driven workplace. S/he will oversee the procurement, implementation, development, and operations of information and communications technologies used in the UTSW Health System ambulatory clinics, hospitals, and partners and works in partnership with the Vice President for Information Resources in formulating clinical technology strategy for the UTSW Health System.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job Duties

  • Align IT objectives and programs with the organization's overall vision, strategies and objectives.
  • Oversee all major Health System IT implementations including the project portfolios for the University Hospital and ambulatory practice.
  • Ensure the successful operation of all day-to-day IT activities within the Health System. This includes the successful operation and maintenance of the UT Southwestern EMR System, EPIC.
  • Work with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure the security and integrity of the Health System IT systems and data.
  • Participate in Health System management meetings to ensure a strong alignment between hospital executives and the HSIR organization.
  • Monitor service levels for IT with Health System stakeholders.
  • Manage the process of integration with Health System management structure for code and emergency management.
  • Work closely with other IT executives insuring mission integration of the clinical systems function.
  • Participate in IT policy development as a member of the IR senior management team.
  • Develop and lead policy development as it relates to Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other information management and technology-driven health care innovation.
  • Work in close collaboration and cooperation with other Associate and Assistant Vice Presidents within Information Resources to ensure IT activities within the research and education missions are appropriately aligned with clinical activities to support the overall missions of UT Southwestern.
  • Remain up to date on health care-related technology innovation, technology-related audit best practices, including state and federal law regarding operations.
  • Interact with senior management to monitor and validate the organization's compliance with information security policies.
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and security-related procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required

  • Education
    Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field


  • Experience
    8 years progressively responsible experience in healthcare information technology, or related industry information technology

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Work requires proven supervisory, customer service, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Work requires the ability to monitor and maintain budget.
