We're searching for the next generation of innovative minds who want to shape the world and live to build. CSEC is looking for a Concrete Assistant Superintendent in our Knoxville Tennessee region. You will help assist with subcontractor scheduling and coordination, quality control, project and look-ahead schedule review, and administration of the Request for Information process.

What You Will Do:

As Assistant Superintendent, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:



  • Lead safety measures in all areas and trades and perform safety audit checklist.
  • May provide direct supervision of TCC hourly field forces for work such as carpentry, concrete, general labor, etc. Responsible for assuring TCC hourly labor timesheets are completed on time and accurately.
  • Responsible for maintaining the knowledge of miscellaneous materials that are required to sustain safety efforts and materials for self-performed work, and coordinate the procurement of these items through the field office staff.
  • Responsible for accurately producing and distributing Daily Reports. Responsible for maintaining awareness of shop drawing information and overseeing correct installations based upon the contract documents and shop drawings/submittals.
  • Assist in implementation and ongoing execution of Quality Assurance Program.
  • Participate in jobsite subcontractor and Owner/ Architect/ Contractor meetings so as to keep abreast of schedule and potential changes to the work.
  • The Assistant Superintendent may be assigned a small project as the sole superintendent or assigned to close out a larger project during the final stage of the project
  • The Assistant Superintendent may be assigned as sole superintendent during off-hour shift work on a project
  • The Assistant Superintendent must have an eye for detail and possess a strong desire for continual improvement in construction management, relationship building, dispute resolution, and communication skills.
  • The Assistant Superintendent must have the ability to schedule work activities by producing look ahead schedules, along with working with the project team to update or create the project master schedule.


What You Will Bring to the Team:

Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:



  • Trade school or apprenticeship program training, or four years of work experience in related job field.


Preferred Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, and other relevant course work, and two years of experience in construction industry.
  • 2-3 years of experience in commercial construction: concrete, interior finishes, carpentry, masonry, drywall/framing, and blueprint reading


Additional Eligibility Qualifications



  1. Demonstrated interest in and ability to develop familiarity with the site requirements, tools, methods, and materials of the full range of trade divisions.
  2. Have basic computer skills, and a basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, Procore, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  3. Must be able to effectively and persuasively express self verbally and in writing, using correct language and grammar in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner.
  4. Highly motivated, passionate, and creative team player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all leaders


Expected Hours of Work: Full time position, Occasional extended hours and nights may apply.

Travel: Travel to and from the construction site is required, majority of the work will be done at the site. Most of the travel will be local, but some long distance and overnight travel may be required depending on the project.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons. As part of our focus on being a Great Place to Work, we want to make sure we are clear on a few more basics we expect:



  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach (with hands and arms), climb, balance stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, be able to use a telephone and operate a keyboard.
  • Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
