A Brief Overview

The Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b) focuses on driving innovation in translational research discoveries toward new discoveries improving outcomes of children diagnosed with devastating tumors.

The D3b is currently looking for a Research Technician III who will join the enthusiastic team of researchers supporting collaborative scientific efforts in the search for novel therapeutic options for kids with brain tumors. The candidate will contribute to exciting work supporting the development, molecular characterization and testing of 3D organoids, cell lines and xenograft models. The position will be involved in exploring tumor cell biology and search for biomarkers as potential therapeutic targets for deadly brain tumors. The candidate will support cell culture efforts, genomic data generation, signaling pathway explorations, and in vitro and in vivo drug testing. Current projects explore molecular characteristics of 3D organoids cultures for low grade glioma and medulloblastoma tumors toward precision medicine driven therapeutic testing utility. Ideal applicants should present a strong understanding of basic cell biology, have an interest in translational research, present strong work ethic skills, and be both dedicated and highly motivated. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy when executing job responsibilities.

What you will do

  • Directly responds to supervising Scientist and/or Laboratory Director
  • Processes tissue material for research model generation (animal injections for patient-derived xenograft models development and tissue cultures for cell line development)
  • Performs cell culture processes
  • Executes independently the in vivo and in vitro experiments
  • Follows established protocols or procedures, develops standard operating procedures if needed
  • Enters and validate data associated with model generation in the laboratory information management system
  • Maintains detailed records regarding animal colony and cell culture maintenance for banking purposes
  • Controls reagents stock inventories
  • Prepares data for publication or presentation at national/international symposia
  • Attends team meetings
  • Provides weekly/monthly metrics on project progress to supervisors
  • Carefully follows laboratory safety procedures and perform experiments in compliance with research safety standards
  • Trains and manage work-study students as needed
  • Attends training sessions relevant to job roles as needed

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Required
  • At least three (3) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Preferred

  • Advanced understanding of lab procedures, protocols, and equipment.
  • Intermediate proficiency with lab specific experiments / techniques.
