Job Description

The Tool & Die Helper is an entry level position that uses manually driven machinery to assist with the build and testing of tools and dies used throughout the production process. This position can potentially lead to higher experienced levels and certifications in machining.

Essential Job Functions


  • At a minimum, use Excel and Axiom to oversee supply inventory and place supply order as necessary.
  • Maintain a work log for tooling and dies used in the production process to determine most used and unused tips and ties.
  • Apply proper maintenance practices of all details of tooling, such as polishing and checking sizes of to tip and die tools.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment including cleaning tool room machinery.
  • Inspect tools and dies to ensure they are properly functional. Repair tools and dies when feasible Replace any that are work, broken or otherwise non-functioning.
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Sharpen tools in the tool shop as needed.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, or dial indicators.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to ensure that tools and dies meet specifications and production requirements by conducting test-fits with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications.
  • Work on-call when requested.


Requirements

  • Please note: This position requires access to information which is subject to stringent controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR), as such, applicants must be a U.S. person defined as a citizen, national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, person granted asylee status in the U.S., or person admitted into the U.S. as a refugee.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Previous experience working in a tool shop is preferred
  • Experience with or ability to learn to properly use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges PLUS basic machine shop equipment such as hand/power tools, cut-off grinder, die grinder, lathe, mill, screwdriver, hammer and punches.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, divide, work with percentages and fractions).
  • Requires a high degree of attention to detail, as even small errors can result in significant problems during the manufacturing process.
  • Works well under pressure and can meet strict deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning in problem-solving to diagnose, troubleshoot and recommend repairs or modifications as needed.
  • Be dependable, motivated with a strong work ethic and willingness to expand skills and develop a career in tool and die.
  • Intermediate experience using a computer. Experience with Excel and other computer software a plus.
  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a post-offer drug screen.

The work setting requires exposure to a typical manufacturing environment that requires the use of personal protective equipment including safety-toe shoes with metatarsal guards, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Manufacturing areas may be affected by outside temperatures and machining.

Must be able to: sit, kneel, crouch, stoop, stand, walk, climb ramps and/or stairs; read and write, work with a computer and keyboard; hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery, sirens, and alarms); speak to express or exchange ideas, impart oral information to include instructions; vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
