Position Announcement

Utah Tech University is looking for a talented, knowledgeable, and professional systems administrator to join our team. The position is instrumental in the smooth operation of Utah Tech University's IT services, online applications, and our compute and storage infrastructure. We maintain and support email, web, single sign-on, and other services. We design and build resilient and scalable IT solutions for campus. Responsibilities

  • Implement and support Microsoft's Active Directory, Exchange, Azure AD, Azure Single Sign On, Intune, Hyper-V and other associated services. This involves providing system administration support for the campus email servers, web servers, file servers, database servers, and application servers. We support Office 365 access and applications.
  • Implements and maintains campus Kubernetes infrastructure including Kubernetes, Rancher, Gitlab, CICD, Helm, Longhorn, and other technologies providing application and development services.
  • Analyze and evaluate information technology security risks and implement risk-reducing security measures. Maintain and provide backups for mission-critical systems. Maintain and implement a disaster recovery plan in the event of a security breach or other catastrophic event. Implement and support system security including responsibility for continually patching and updating all operating systems including but not limited to Microsoft, Linux, and ESXi.
  • Provide high-level support to IT technicians and others on campus. Recommend technology-based solutions for campus departments.
  • Implement and maintain the University's virtualization infrastructure, load-balancing infrastructure, and server infrastructure. Implement and support enterprise SAN storage systems utilizing vSAN, iSCSI, and fiber channel architectures.
  • Implement and support data center infrastructure, including racks, PDUs, KVMs, servers, switches, and other equipment. Document and inventory software and hardware in the data centers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred. A combination of college coursework and work experience equivalent to four years will also be considered.
  • Two years of related work experience desired.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex hardware, software, and network problems required.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Linux, macOS, VMWare, and Windows operating systems, and other Microsoft server technologies, including Active Directory, Exchange, Hyper-V, System Center, Azure AD, Azure Single Sign On, Intune, and Office 365.
  • Ability to research, configure and implement Open-Source solutions preferred.
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining MySQL, Microsoft SQL, and Postges SQL databases and supporting applications preferred.
  • Ability to use one or more programming tools or scripting tools such as PowerShell, HTML, Python, C++, JavaScript, PHP, etc. preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain Tomcat, WordPress, and IIS web servers with experience in obtaining SSL certificates preferred.
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure including racks, PDUs, cabling, cooling, power, storage, and physical servers preferred.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, or Google Could preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills; must be able to communicate complex technology to non-technical individuals.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $60,000+ depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of June 2025.
