The Contract Vendor Auditorwill be responsible for reviewing vendor contractsto ensure compliance with contractual obligations. This role involves performing risk-based testingto validate charges, identifying potential issues, and preparing detailed audit reportswith recommendationsfor management.
The auditor will assess vendor risk, investigate billing discrepancies, and work closely with internal teamsto improve vendor oversight and compliance.

The role is blending operational audit and forensic audit to identify potential areas of fraud and risk in both vendor and Matador processes, contract compliance, spending patterns, billing, property and transportation practices, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate discrepanciesrelated to vendor invoices, purchase orders, and contractual terms.
  • Assess vendor risk and compliance, ensuring adherence to company policies and industry regulations.
  • Conduct financial and operational auditsof vendors, identifying inefficiencies, overcharges, or fraudulent activities.
  • Review vendor rate sheetsand pricing agreements to verify consistency with contract terms.
  • Analyze GPS and operational datato ensure accurate billing, particularly for service-based contracts.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including procurement, accounts payable, and operations, to resolve vendor-related issues.
  • Provide audit findings and recommendationsto senior management and assist in remediation efforts.
  • Maintain accurate audit documentationand support audit follow-up activities.

Preferred Experience & Industry Knowledge
  • Experience working with oilfield service vendors, including water haulers, construction, and maintenance contractors.
  • Understanding of field operations, including trucking, hauling, and wellsite services.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, vendor agreements, and cost recovery audits.
  • Experience with OpenInvoice, OpenTicket, or similar vendor billing platformsis a plus.
  • Ability to assess vendor financial stability, including reviewing liens, tax issues, and creditworthiness.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, including FMCSA, DOT regulations (if applicable), and local/state requirements.
  • Oil & Gas experience is preferred

3 must have functional skills:
  • Familiarity with internal controls, risk assessment, and compliance frameworks; experience working with contractsis preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Exceland strong data analysis skills.
3 must have soft skills:
  • Strong communication and organizational skills - create executive presentations to communicate audit findings
  • Quickly establish rapport and build trust with vendors, frontline workers, employees, executives

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure.
