Position Purpose: Incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of warehouse operations, while leading a team of distribution center partners in proficiently and effectively executing shipping/receiving/inventory control responsibilities. The role is an integral part of the supply chain operation, ensuring a variety of DC operations run smoothly to support product being received, processed, stored, packed and shipped correctly. This role will also demonstrate leadership skills to create and promote an environment where partners are engaged, empowered and committed to the success of the company. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise the daily activities of the Distribution Center Partners in one or more functional work units such as Picking, Shipping, Receiving, etc. to include training, scheduling, assignment delegation and daily review of work to ensure that assigned duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Ensure operational productivity levels are set for hourly partners, maintained and continuously improved to ensure accuracy and efficiency Manage the financial performance of the assigned department(s), to include monitoring appropriate staffing levels, reducing damages and controlling supply costs Enforce and support an effective Safety program that complies with all OSHA, federal and state policies that optimize safety within the facility Collaborate across departments to coordinate the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers Take an active role in DC improvement projects and change management processes Communicate any productivity concerns to the Operations Manager. Special projects as assigned. Nature of Supervision: Functional guidance is provided on some, but not all tasks to be performed, and the results of individual projects are generally reviewed upon completion. In addition, some tasks may be completed without regular supervisory direction or guidance. Supervisory Responsibility: The nature of this position entails supervising one or more work units in the Distribution Center, to include ongoing training and assignment delegation. The Distribution Center Department Manager is also responsible for providing primary input toward the performance evaluations of the Distribution Center Partners as well as input on hiring, disciplining and terminating employees. Education/Experience: The minimum educational background of an applicant to this position is a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED). A Bachelors degree is preferred. In addition, a qualified applicant will demonstrate a strong working knowledge of basic Distribution Center management principles, including scheduling, accounting relationships and inventory control policies. Incumbent must also have working knowledge of basic computer skills to log, track and report data. Work Environment: While some job duties are performed while seated indoors, the majority of the time is spent in the Distribution Center, where exposure to heat, cold, dirt, dust, fumes and noise should not be overlooked. As the Distribution Center Department Manager may also be required on occasion to work in the warehouse, there may be risk of injury resulting from improper procedures. Contacts: Contacts within the Distribution Center account for the majority of the Distribution Center Department Manager's time and may range anywhere from the routine exchange of information to the resolution of moderately difficult problems.
