Position Purpose |
The Financial Reporting Analyst assists with the preparation of annual financial statements, regulatory reporting, tax filings and financial surveys for Dartmouth and its related entities. Assists with variance analysis and future period projections of divisional operating revenue and expenditures. Partners with campus-wide divisional fiscal officers and other financial managers to provide on-going support around accounting matters and reporting questions. Provides assistance in analysis and testing of changes to various Oracle financial modules, tools and reports. |
Description |
The Financial Reporting Analyst supports the financial reporting efforts for Dartmouth College and related entities. This includes performing financial analysis, such as reconciliations, reviewing and approving journal entries and working with stakeholders to resolve questions. This position supports financial audits, as well as the preparation of tax workpapers. |

Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of accounting and taxes for not-for-profits, preferably higher education.
* Excellent analytical/critical thinking abilities.
* Ability to plan work, set priorities and manage multiple priorities, and changes in schedules and priorities.
* Knowledge of internal controls.
* Highly proficient with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and similar applications.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Initiative, sound judgment and ability to work independently.
Experience
* Three to five years of relevant experience in a related field, with a high degree of autonomy.
* Experience working on financial statement preparation
Education
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or similar. |

Key Accountabilities
Description |
Accounting and Reporting
- Performs in-depth analysis of accounts at year-end to determine accuracy of financial information. Responsible for the preparation of the year-end supporting workpapers to the financial statements. Provides assistance in preparing Dartmouth's and related entities' annual financial statements including footnotes. Responds to external auditor inquiries.
- Assists in the preparation of the College's and related entities' federal and state tax filings, such as
IRS Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, Form 990T, Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return, and the State of New Hampshire Income Tax Returns.
-Prepares other financial information and reports, both for internal and external use. Compiles financial information for special projects, which could include financial forecasts, trend analysis, historical data compilation, ratio comparisons, etc. Provides support for the accounting of the College's and related entities debt obligations and capital projects.
-Performs quarterly analysis on operating accounts to identify and document actual or projection vs budget variances. Supports the quarterly reporting to the Trustees and other management report processes as requested.
-Specialized tasks related to specific functions within the Financial Reporting Group will be assigned to each analyst as needed. |

Outreach/Training
-Provides outreach efforts to departments concerning accounting issues. Acts as a resource for departments to use in determining the proper accounting and recording of transactions.
-Researches and assists in resolving departmental issues related to the implementation of Dartmouth's accounting policies and procedures.
-Identified needs and assists in the development of special reports to provide better financial information to users.
-Works closely with departments to encourage use of existing financial management tools and reports. Acts as a resource for departments to use in determining the proper accounting and recording of transactions.
- Helps establish appropriate administrative procedures to insure adherence to College policies, which requires a thorough knowledge of issues relating to internal accounting controls, accounting practices and accounting procedures to insure that the information on the financial reporting systems are accurate. |
