Research Technician

The ASH Lab (theashlab.org) on the Neurobiology of Feeding and Motivation is seeking a full-time research technician.

The role will contribute to the lab's research goals, including identifying the underlying neural circuits coordinating food-related decision making. The ASH Lab uses a variety of cellular, molecular, behavioral, and open-source neuroscience approaches in rodent models with the goal of identifying the neural underpinnings of diseases associated with dysregulated feeding, including eating disorders and overconsumption. The ASH Lab is a teaching lab and professional development will be woven in with job responsibilities and professional interests.

Six months of lab experience is required (can include any STEM lab environment: biology, computation/engineering, neuroscience, psychology, physiology, etc). Additional experience in engineering, coding techniques, rodent handling and colony management, rodent behavior, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, computational, and coding techniques is preferred but not required. We highly encourage applicants with at least two of these skills to apply.

*Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel

*Develop and maintain open-source tool development in the lab as it relates to behavioral neuroscience experiment

*Assist with ongoing research projects in the lab, including stereotaxic surgeries, behavioral experiments, in vivo optogenetic and photometry experiments, and immunohistochemistry/microscopic imaging

*Manage mouse colony (genotyping, breeding, weaning)

*Assist with laboratory management (e.g., ordering and stocking, lab cleaning, and lab personnel training)

*Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.

*Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.

*Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse constituent population, as well as adolescents.

*Demonstrated professional demeanor and sensitivity towards research participants.

*Ability to work evenings or many weekends, as required.

*Ability to work on these projects for two years

*Must successfully demonstrate receipt of Bachelor's degree prior to commencement of the position.

Preferred:

*Expertise in computational approaches used for data analyses and/or programming (R, MATLAB, Python, Bonsai, C++, Arduino)

*Electronic prototyping (arduino microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, etc.)

*CAD design

*3D printing

*Rodent handling

*Molecular biology (PCR, qPCR, DNA extraction)

*Immunohistochemistry

*Microscopy

*Rodent behavioral assays
