Job Summary |
The Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life- Community Development is a professional staff member in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life who coordinates a variety of programs and services. The Assistant Director will work directly with the
FSL team of three full-time staff members in planning all aspects of the fraternity/sorority experience for the UT Dallas Fraternity & Sorority Community of approximately 1,000 students in twenty-seven organizations and four governing councils (
CPC,
IFC,
MGC,
NPHC).
The main objective of the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life is to provide support, resources, and development for students in the
FSL community. All staff members are directly involved in student group advising, leadership training and development, assessment, and coordinating services and programs for other defined student populations. An expectation for staff is to advise, counsel, and serve as advocates for students experiencing difficulties or crises. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelors degree and three years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. |
Preferred Education and Experience |
- Knowledge and practice of current fraternity and sorority issues, counseling and advising practices, and risk management policies.
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Development, Counseling, or related discipline.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge in the following areas: leadership development, career readiness competencies, promotion of physical and psychological health/wellness, sexual misconduct prevention and response, prevention of high-risk use of alcohol and other drugs, community development, and hazing prevention within fraternal organizations.
- Current membership in a nationally recognized fraternity or sorority.
- The ability to articulate the educational values of fraternities and sororities and how sororities and fraternities create and support belonging within the college community.
- Positive, collaborative attitude that creates spaces for support, encouragement, and development.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills as well as conflict resolution techniques.
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and perform work with a high degree of accuracy over extended periods.
- Ability to work nights and weekend hours as related to specific programs and services associated with this position and the department.
- Represent the office of Fraternity & Sorority Life at various community and/or university committees and task forces, promoting existing and new opportunities and/or policies.
- Strength in working as one part of a dynamic and motivated team of professionals.
- Demonstrated success in event planning and management.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and students face-to-face.
- Ability to learn and implement office, division, and university strategic plans.
- Commitment to the growth and development of college students.
- Ability to organize, implement, and evaluate student programs and educational work with in-depth assessment.
- Ability to recruit and assist in selecting, supervising, and training office employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Develop programs, strategies, and partnerships to promote a cross-campus, data-driven education system regarding topics, including chapter management, recruitment, and new member education. Supervise and attend all major office and council programming.
- Develop curriculum and teach leadership and educational programs for individual chapters, chapter officers, and the Greek Community (e.g., presidents' meetings, chapter officer training).
- Supervise full-time fraternity and sorority life professionals and fraternity and sorority student employees.
- Serve as a liaison to inter/national fraternities and sororities, alumni/ae advisors, and undergraduate chapters regarding chapter operations, extension/expansion, university policies, community standard cases, and other relevant issues.
- Advise and support executive board officers and delegates of the governing Council(s) and collaborate closely with presidents, other chapter leadership, and UT Dallas student organization leaders.
- Conduct office assessments, including development, tracking, and data analytics for a major program, strategic initiatives, and individual leadership opportunities.
- Consult individual chapter and council leaders regarding scholarship, social events, new member recruitment and education, well-being programming, and best practices related to each position.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions |
Days/M-F: 8am-5pm/Nights and weekends as needed.
Work outside of the normal business hours may be required.
Work in a dynamic office environment, with frequent interaction with students, staff, and external partners.
General office conditions may include standing or sitting for long periods of time and moving or lifting objects if able. Employees, if able, can obtain a valid Texas driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record during employment to drive a UT Dallas-owned vehicle or golf cart. |

Remote Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the
DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
