Job Details Postdoctoral Fellow - Neurodegenerative disease The Neurodegenerative Disease Research Laboratory at UC San Diego is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join our multidisciplinary team dedicated to unravelling the mechanisms of neurotoxicity in prion and Alzheimer's disease. We use iPSC-derived neurons, primary neurons, state-of-the-art molecular and biochemistry techniques, gene therapy, and knockin mouse models to investigate the molecular basis for neuronal degeneration and astrogliosis and test potential therapies, with a focus on the endo-lysosomal pathway, autophagy, and synaptic excitotoxicity. We also study how protein aggregates spread from cell-to-cell within the brain. We are looking for highly motivated candidates to lead projects including prion trafficking effects on endolysosomal function at the synapse and neurotoxicity. Our NIH-funded projects include understanding the mechanisms of prion spread between cells through the glymphatic pathway, selective neuronal vulnerability in prion disease, and mechanisms underlying neurotoxicity. The Sigurdson Laboratory is highly interactive with collaborators at UCLA, Linkoping University, University of Hamburg, as well as locally at UCSD and at The Scripps Research Institute. Additional information can be found at http://sigurdsonlab.ucsd.edu. The University of California, San Diego is located on the La Jolla Mesa in close proximity to The Scripps Research Institute, the Salk Institute, and the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute Research and provides a highly stimulating, collaborative, and interactive research environment in a beautiful location. To Apply: Please send curriculum vitae and contact information for three references to: Christina Sigurdson , D.V.M., Ph.D., Dept. of Pathology, UCSD, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093-0612; e-mail: csigurdson@ucsd.edu. Candidates with research experience in neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology, and mouse genetics and excellent communication skills are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will conduct both independent and collaborative research within a productive scientific lab group. The candidates are also encouraged to explore new research areas and seek independent funding as part of their own career development. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability. Company The neurodegenerative disease research community at UC San Diego is vibrant and highly collaborative. |
