The Appraiser Manager position is responsible for the comprehensive appraisal process with oversight of multiple specialized teams. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of the appraisal process, possess excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of managing multiple teams. This position embraces innovative and critical thinking skills during daily tasks, supports and mentors direct and indirect reports, and works collaboratively with other work groups in the office to achieve the mission and vision of the Maricopa County Assessor's Office. It also operates in a capacity that directly supports the efforts toward achieving the strategic plan and initiatives while setting the tone and motivating teams under their direct purview.

We Require

  • Five years of property appraisal experience

  • Two years of supervisory appraisal experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Property Appraisal, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis

  • Successful completion of Arizona Department of Revenue (DOR) Level II coursework; professional certification or designation from a professional appraisal organization

    • The completion of AZ DOR Level II Coursework or other professional approval certification requirements may be substituted with evidence of at least 300 hours of successfully completed coursework towards a certification or designation from a professional appraisal organization. In such instances, DOR Level I certification must be completed within 15 months of hire, and DOR Level II certification must be attained within one year thereafter

  • Five or more years of appraisal experience in an Ad Valorem environment

  • Experience in a specialized discipline and/or multiple property types

Job Contributions

  • Manage and direct daily appraisal efforts for appraisal teams across multiple property types

  • Directly responsible for assuring fair, equitable, quality, and consistent valuations through collaboration with workgroups across the office and ensuring teams are maintaining these standards

  • Provide oversight of quality assurance and control processes to ensure fair and equitable property values

  • Provide strategic direction for direct oversight workgroups to produce fair and equitable property values, improve processes, increase efficiency, and improve customer service

  • Promote and embody the one-team culture through fostering a positive and progressive work environment

  • Lead, mentor, and support direct and indirect reports toward professional growth

  • Identify challenges, build businesses cases, and implement solutions within directly managed workgroups and provide support and input to indirectly managed workgroups towards this effort

  • Collaborate with other work groups across the office, such as IT, HR, and the Administration, to establish fair and consistent production standards, set goals, track, and measure progress of appraisal work

  • Collaborate with teams across the office to identify, define, and determine solutions to challenges in our processes, procedures, and/or legislative statutes

  • Ensure and maintain a high level of customer service by demonstrating and setting communication standards, represent the Assessor's Office with stakeholders, constituents, tax consultants, jurisdictions, and other governmental entities as appropriate

  • Utilize excellent communication skills to ensure consistent messaging across workgroups and direct reporting teams

  • Operate with a growth mindset, resilience, and define solutions to challenges that arise in a continually changing environment
