We are seeking a Tax Senior Manager in our Affordable Housing practice based in Birmingham, AL. The Senior Manager will be able to effectively communicate with staff and Partners, as they are often the intermediators of the practice. They should possess the ability to create great client relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with clients. They will also need to have the ability to focus on details to verify the accuracy or identify errors within a work paper, procedure and final deliverable to the client. It is imperative that the Senior Manager be able to anticipate client needs and adapt to client priorities/deadlines. They will have the responsibility of balancing workloads, delegating duties & assignments, and managing deadlines, while conducting on-going training and mentoring of staff while communicating effectively.

What Work You Will be Responsible For:
  • Prepare financial projections and evaluate potential projects in collaboration and at the direction of the client.

  • Complete the financial modeling of low-income housing tax credit partnerships, considering financial structure and pricing, sources and uses of construction, informal underwriting analysis of the real estate market, rents and expenses, tax concepts, and stress scenarios.

  • Review letters of intent from investors and lenders.

  • Assist in underwriting multifamily developments financed with affordable housing tax credits

  • Assist clients, investors and lenders with requested due diligence items.

  • Review of applicable sections of the partnership agreement and other legal documents as needed.

  • Research various transactional and compliance issues.

  • Assist with project closings with investors, lenders, attorneys, and third-party consultants.

  • Assist in the preparation of and/or review of monthly development draw packages.

  • Assist in the preparation of cost certification calculations.

  • Assist in the preparation of debt service coverage calculations.

  • Support audit and tax teams with special projects as needed.

  • Identify and participate in new networking opportunities within the firm and community.

  • Identify and participate in relevant industry & local business groups.

  • Identify volunteer opportunities for the team to participate in.

  • Presents themselves as a professional within and outside of the firm.

  • Evaluates new development opportunities to create efficiencies and growth.

  • Able to leverage key relationships to determine and execute solutions during difficult and busy periods of the year.

  • Identifies solutions and action steps to address future staffing needs.

  • Sets clear deadlines for networking / volunteering participation.

  • Clarifies participation areas that are assigned and areas that are not.

  • Ensures development opportunities are completed on time.

  • Periodically reports development status to partner(s).

  • Constructively holds others, including clients, accountable to work commitments.

  • Guides and ensures that the team understands how each engagement aligns with firm goals.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent field

  • 8+ years of recent tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience in public accounting or with a mix of public/private experience.

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or IRS (Internal Revenue Service) Enrolled Agent Certification

  • Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for Affordable Housing clients.

  • LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit) knowledge and experience.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Taxation or relevant field

  • Experience using GoSystems or CCH Axcess tax software Preferred Certifications

  • 5+ years of experience serving Affordable Housing client tax needs.
