Under the leadership of the Director of Virtual Learning & Instructional Technology, the Educational Associate - Special Education Instructional Technology develops and implements innovative instructional technology initiatives that promote inclusive and accessible learning environments. This position supports school-based and central office staff in the effective use of instructional technology.
Essential Functions
- Serves as an expert in the field of instructional technology.
- Partners with City Schools departments to ensure digital tools are accessible for all students.
- Manages special education instructional technology projects by providing necessary research, documentation, tools and training to attain desired project outcomes within time and budgetary constraints.
- Provides on-site assistance to school and district staff in the operation and integration of technology to support students with disabilities.
- Conducts research concerning developments in the field of instructional technology and other related topics as assigned and disseminates information and recommendations as appropriate.
- Supports the development and delivery of professional learning focused on instructional technology to provide access to quality instruction for special education students.
- Supports the management of technology platforms for the Office of Special Education.
- Develops and maintains productive relationships with third party vendors.
- Works collaboratively with staff in the Office of Special Education and all other offices supporting special education instructional technology.
- Maintains a proficient technical knowledge of Baltimore City Public Schools applications and processes.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.

- Bachelor's degree in Education or a closely related field and four years directly related experience. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
- Three years teaching experience, preferably with students with special needs.
- Valid Maryland State Department of Education Standard Professional Certificate.
- Knowledge of federal and state legislation and guidelines governing the education of students with disabilities.
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
