Barrios Technology has a need for an Exploration Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Engineer to support NASA Flight Operations Directorate at the Johnson Space Center in the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) discipline at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

Responsibilities

As a member of the EVA, Robotics and Mechanical Systems Organization, this candidate will be assigned to support NASA Flight Operations Directorate at the Johnson Space Center in the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) discipline. The successful candidate will first train on ISS EVA concepts while also taking on a leadership role in EVA exploration programs. Future certifications as an EVA instructor or flight controller in Mission Control Center (MCC) are possible. In that capacity, the candidate will function as a lead for EVA future mission operations, providing development and integration support. Frequent interactions with diverse organizations require development of close working relationships facilitated by good interpersonal skills. The candidate will be required to give technical and high-level presentations to a variety of panels and forums. They will be required to participate in and contribute to group efforts to streamline and upgrade technical and administrative processes.



Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

    Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or other technically related area and 4+ years of related experience
  • Possess a technical background and a good understanding of engineering principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated initiative, outstanding organizational skills, the ability to participate in a team environment, and the ability to function well under pressure
  • The candidate must have strong multi-tasking/work prioritization skills
  • Must be able to meet JSC requirements for certification as a Flight Controller
  • In addition, candidates must be able to apply for and successfully receive/maintain the required background check and pass a flight controller physical
  • Night, weekend, and Holiday work may be required for integrated simulations and flight support
  • Domestic and international travel may also be required

Preferences:

  • Experienced in project management
  • Experienced in training engineering and technical information
  • Familiarity with pressurized operations (spaceflight/undersea)
  • Previous experience in flight control, technical integration, or systems engineering is highly desired
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)

Essential Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary
  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed
