Pay Range

$231,660- $293,760 Annually for the TSL.5 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

The Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Directorate has an opening for a Business Architect Manager. ES&H is a multidisciplinary directorate responsible for managing over 100 complex and dynamic programs across the Laboratory, with a $95M+ budget and approximately 500 employees. In this role, you will serve as the focal point for the business needs tied to ES&H software systems, leading a small team and reporting to the Operations Department Manager as part of the Directorate Operations staff. Your primary objective will be to represent ES&H business needs by partnering with the ES&H/LivIT Deputy Program Manager to lead, develop, monitor, and manage transformational initiatives by leveraging enterprise IT services. Your facilitation and engagement across ES&H, with LivIT, vendors, and Department of Energy Partners, will be critical to the maturation of the Directorate's aggressive strategic transformation initiatives.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or moredays per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

You will

  • Serve as the Business Architect for ES&H, leading the development and scoping of business strategies while co-developing a strategic business roadmap. Focus on aligning business processes with IT solutions to enhance operational efficiency and achieve strategic objectives, including managing integration efforts between LLNL systems and the DOE SAFER application.
  • Ensure proper evaluation, prioritization, and approval of proposed business process changes, minimizing risk and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Proactively identify ES&H business risks and opportunities and develop plans to ensure risk reduction and opportunity realization.
  • Collaborate with ES&H programmatic SMEs in identifying, developing, tracking/monitoring, and evolving ES&H data analysis efforts.
  • Advise the Operations Manager and other ES&H Senior Leadership team on meaningful metrics and performance indicators.
  • Utilize project management processes to ensure a standard of high-level project planning, stakeholder engagement, execution, and appropriate controlling/monitoring of major ES&H projects.
  • Develop and deliver status briefings to the ES&H Senior Leadership Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in ES&H, physical sciences, engineering, public administration or other related technical fields, or equivalent combination of education and significant related technical experience and experience leading independent work.
  • Extensive experience applying highly complex analytical skills to compile, complete an in-depth analysis, and present data using commercial tools such as Enablon, Micro Strategy, or other similar platforms.
  • Substantial expertise in technical leadership, including mastery of project management methodologies, budget management, and process improvement strategies that consistently drive successful outcomes.
  • Extensive experience in leading large projects and/or supervising organizational staff, including managing performance issues, fostering career development, providing performance feedback, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team effectively.
  • Substantial experience representing the business side of large IT projects and scenarios, resolving highly complex problems, developing strategic roadmaps, and planning and coordinating solutions across diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, conflict resolution, persuasion, negotiation, and consensus-building skills, coupled with independent judgment to ensure deliverables are achieved efficiently and effectively.
  • Expert ability to approach and resolve difficult issues, some of which may include factors that are not well defined, using creative and innovative problem-solving skills and decision-making techniques while maintaining successful and effective working relationships with a broad cross-section of management, technical, and administrative personnel.
  • Expert verbal and written communication, facilitation, collaboration, and presentation skills required to effectively lead, present, explain, and advise senior management and SMEs.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Possession or past completion of industry recognized project management certification(s).
  • Comprehensive understanding of LLNL Programs and policies and experience with ES&H practices.
  • Familiarity with DOE SAFER initiatives.
  • Proven experience in identifying functional interdependencies and addressing cross-silo redundancies within an organization, with a focus on developing and implementing effective solutions.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
