JOB TITLE: ADVISORY ENGINEER /Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling SME

U.S. Citizenship Required

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Support the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering (N&CSE) organization in the development of nuclear safety calculations and documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site (SRS) as an expert in atmospheric transport and dispersion analysis for radiological and toxic chemical consequence evaluations of accident release scenarios to provide support to the Analytical Support group on an as-needed basis.

There is a particular need for experience in performing software quality assurance and running atmospheric transport modeling and simulation software, specically MACCS2 and GENII. Experience in source term calculations and additional atmospheric transport modeling and simulation software (e.g., AXAIR) would be preferred. Develop accident analyses for liquid and solid waste radiological release events. The events to be analyzed may include, but not be limited to, internal and external events (including res and explosions) and natural phenomena (including seismic and high wind/tornado). Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and that applicable controls are identied.

GENERAL DUTIES:

* Initiate own technical programs and make recommendations to management on technical programs based on analysis of customer needs and technology trends

* Reach solutions to the most complex technical problems in eld(s) of expertise and inuence solutions in neighboring disciplines.

* Apply technical experience in eld of specialization (or broad-based experience in multiple technical elds) and use other technical resources in the company and external resources, to resolve complex problems.

* Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and dicult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

* Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area of technical specialization.

  • * Recommend research programs for others in group and assist in that planning.

  • * Develop solutions to the most complex technical problems in areas of expertise and in adjacent technical elds.

  • Inuence technical direction of other parts of the department and act as a technical communicator across disciplines to optimize the creative solution of technical problems

  • * Conceive needed programs for self and for others in the department.

  • * Put needs in perspective with regard to other technical needs at SRNS

    Sponsor new ideas in the department.

  • * Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks for division.

  • * Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.

  • Include research, development, testing, and quality assurance requirements

  • * Communicate results verbally and in manuscripts form.

  • * Report regularly the results and represent SRNS and SRS in technical areas to oversight groups and professional societies.

  • * Mentor less senior professionals in communication skills.

  • * Maintain excellent technical credibility by contributing signicantly toward meeting Site missions and goals which may be demonstrated by issuing reports, making presentations, and/or involvement in national technical organizations.

  • * Mentor less senior professionals as a means of transferring technical knowledge and insight.

  • * Recommend engineering and technology research, development and application programs for others and assist in the planning of such programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education: Degree in Engineering, Math, or Science. PhD in applicable discipline and 15 years relevant work experience, MS degree and 17 years relevant work experience, or BS degree and 21 years relevant work experience required.

Experience/Skills:

Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of fteen (15) years of experience in the DOE or commercial nuclear industry providing Facility Safety Basis / Accident Analysis support (per DOE-STD-3009-94 or similar requirements document).

Candidate's resume must document a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling.

Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in using MACCS/MACCS2.

Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in using GENII.

Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of ve (5) years of experience performing software Quality Assurance (QA) and Verication & Validation (V&V).

Experience in source term calculations and additional atmospheric transport modeling and simulation software (e.g., ALOHA, AXAIR, AERMOD, etc.) would be preferred.
