Engagement Manager - McKinsey Transformation
Job ID: 96948

Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges-the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place.
Your Impact
You will operate as an engagement leader where you will lead the day to day execution of a client project, typically guiding a team of 3-5 consultants to help clients achieve new performance highs.
You will use the MT "recipe" of leveraging a holistic, execution-centric approach and providing interim management and transformation leadership capabilities. Your client engagements will often span 12-24 months and they will include three phases: independent diligence phase (6-8 weeks), bottom up phase (6-8 weeks) and implementation (6-12+ months).
You will work directly with clients - usually on site - and will take ownership of the overall project and its end products. You will be responsible for delivering the transformation process, integrating it across multiple workstreams, establishing the right mindset based on the latest performance and mobilizing the entire business to achieve and sustain value. You also will be responsible for ensuring that the team fully and properly leverages the capabilities of MT globally.
More broadly, you will have the opportunity to build on your proven leadership skills and leverage a range of influencing styles, ranging from respected "hard-edge" manager to motivational senior coach. You will inspire others, build strong relationships and display high energy and resilience in ambiguous and faced-paced contexts. In a collaborative team setting, you'll work closely with others but also autonomously with little direction.
Your Growth
You will work in one of our North American offices as part of the global McKinsey Transformation (MT) team. There will be flexibility in the location of this role, with MT hiring for VPs focused on transformations in multiple offices globally.
McKinsey Transformation is a unit of McKinsey, founded in 2010, which focuses exclusively on holistic transformations and corporate restructuring, with a goal of helping clients drive rapid and dramatic performance improvement. We hire experienced professionals from industry, private equity, and the restructuring ecosystem to work with our firm's global network of industry and function experts. Together, colleagues collaborate with clients to execute the steps needed to achieve extraordinary change.
In the Vice President/Engagement Manager role, you will have the opportunity to work on teams and help the best organizations in the world - across the private, public, and social sectors - solve some of their most difficult problems. MT has ~150 dedicated consultants and ~250 generalists consultants among our global affiliates and we serve clients in more than 50 countries. Many of our clients are among the largest impact situations for the Firm globally.
Your qualifications and skills
  • MBA degree ideally with an outstanding record of academic achievement; advanced degree is preferred
  • +10 years of experience leading transformations, restructuring or turnaround situations
  • Prior experience in both industry and a professional services firm
  • Proven record of leadership and experience managing teams and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Outstanding records of managerial or professional achievement
  • Demonstrated aptitude for analytical and conceptual problem solving; comfort with quantitative analysis and managerial accounting
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Expertise in driving rapid and successful operational turnarounds and/or rapid growth programs, across key strategic, revenue, cost and working capital levers
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial statements, exposure to business plan or P&L modeling, working capital management and/or 13-week cashflow preparation
  • Expertise in Chapter 11 or local restructuring equivalent (e.g. phases, reporting requirements, legal restrictions) is an advantage but not required
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English and the local office language(s)
