Job Summary laboratory science, translating project objectives into experimental plans and data that further progress research programs. Responsibilities: CREATION 70 % Works in collaboration with others and independently to advance projects. Conducts experiments independently. Troubleshoots problems when they occur. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Documents experiments, makes technical presentations, and contributes to progress/technical reports. Designs and sets experimental direction and suggests innovations within the framework of the assigned project and functional group. INNOVATION / NEW TECHNOLOGY 15 % Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement. Increases level of professional expertise through scientific literature and network contacts. Identifies shortcomings in existing research procedures and systems and proposes solutions to address them. CUSTOMER INTIMACY AND TECHNICAL PARTNERSHIP 5% Participates in Department meetings and other functional activities. Communicates well to various audiences including technical, business, and leadership stakeholders. Interacts and networks across technical areas. Serves as an expert in a technical area and helps to connect co-workers as needed to solve technical problems. Interacts as part of a team with internal and/or external customers to support the relationship. Develops an understanding of how project objectives and their work meet internal and external customer needs. LEADERSHIP 10% Serves as a safety resource beyond the Team in a related technical area based on area of technical expertise. Leads independent workstreams or programs within projects with input from project/technical leaders. Leads laboratory activities, technician and technologist teams. May mentor or develop others in functional group or project team. JOB REQUIREMENTS Educational requirement MS + 3 years of scientific experience in related discipline or equivalent. Experience required Sufficient time in previous grade to demonstrate mastery of responsibilities and deliver significant contributions. Recognized for a higher level of technical excellence, above that of Associate Scientists as a group. Established a significant body of relevant work and a record of contributions and impact across multiple projects.
