A Brief Overview

Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using the nursing process in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.

UH Elyria Medical Center 8 Smythe is a 21-bed Stepdown Unit. We transitioned the floor to a Stepdown Unit in 2024 from a Cardiac Med/Surg unit. We mainly focus on Adult Cardiac,Thoracic, and Vascular surgeries and corresponding medical diagnosis. Elyria Medical Center is a large hospital with a small hospital feel. This is felt throughout the hospital especially on 8 Smythe. We pride ourselves on working as team and no one rests until every patient on the unit is taken care of. What You Will Do

• Functions in accordance with the professional standards of the Ohio board of nursing.
• Completes/submits required documentation.
• Delivers effective relationship based nursing care.
• Demonstrates technical skills in care delivery that result in safe practice and positive care outcomes.
• Demonstrates clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations.
• Develops self and contributes to the professional practice of nursing.
• Displays leadership that influences optimal clinical and operational outcomes.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
