Vice President of Fundraising, Signature Events

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

The VP of Fundraising, Signature Events leads the strategy, execution, and growth of all signature event fundraising initiatives, focusing on expanding donor engagement, diversifying revenue streams, and driving innovation in event models. This role is responsible for ensuring that all signature event fundraising initiatives-such as Dinner of Champions, Together for A Cure, and other social fundraising initiatives -are strategically developed and effectively executed to meet or exceed revenue goals and operational objectives.

This role provides strategic leadership across multiple regions, managing diverse teams to drive event success. Additionally, the VP serves as a key collaborator and thought partner, working closely with Regional Leaders, Development Vice Presidents, and reports to the SVP of Peer to Peer and Event Fundraising to align and optimize fundraising efforts.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Drive revenue expansion by implementing best practices, leveraging data analysis, emerging trends, and competitive insights to enhance social fundraising initiatives such as Galas, Auctions, Luncheons, Social Events, Golf Events, Awards and Honor Events, and Other Special Events (i.e. Office of the CEO/CDO).

  • Develop and implement clear, measurable, data-driven growth plans, aligned with the Society's Strategic Plan, focusing on innovative event strategies, resource optimization, and continuous model refinement to maximize participation, revenue, and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure the most effective deployment of funding, personnel, and operational support while developing growth, exit, or innovation strategies for social fundraising events.

  • Provide visible leadership within Development Leadership, collaborating across departments and partnering with regional leaders, marketing, technology, and finance teams to design forward-thinking strategies for social fundraising events.

  • Oversee and manage multi-million-dollar budgets for Signature event campaigns, ensuring sustainable growth and efficient resource allocation while fostering cross-functional collaboration to drive organizational goals.

  • Use CRM tools and data analytics to enhance supporter engagement and sustained donor involvement, identifying other activities to strengthen supporters' connections with the Society and its mission impact areas.

  • Cultivate leadership excellence by coaching and mentoring direct reports, empowering them to achieve regional and team-wide objectives.

  • Develop and implement strategies that align Social Events with Mission Impact areas, creating deeper supporter connections and fostering long-term donor cultivation.

  • Ensure alignment across teams, helping regions, chapters, and departments understand their role in connecting and integrating with the National Board, Volunteer Leaders, and Constituents.

Required qualifications

  • 10+ years of demonstrated and relevant development experience (including 6 years of team leadership and supervision); demonstrated success managing large-scale Signature Event fundraising campaigns or similar revenue-generating initiatives across diverse regions preferred.

  • Proven ability to innovate signature and other social-based fundraising strategies by leveraging emerging trends, data insights, and creative approaches to optimize growth and donor engagement.

  • Experience with large gifts (six to seven-figure), donor cultivation, and social event spaces.

  • Extensive experience managing geographically dispersed teams, in remote and hybrid settings, overseeing both revenue generation and project execution.

  • Strong ability to thrive under pressure, handle criticism professionally, and consistently achieve fundraising commitments.

  • Exceptional project management, strategic planning, and negotiation capabilities to drive effective resource allocation and maximize fundraising outcomes.

  • Demonstrated expertise in cultivating a data-driven culture by leveraging advanced CRM tools and analytics to inform strategic decisions, train teams, and embed data-focused approaches into fundraising strategies.

  • Field-based role requiring 50%+ travel, including events, training, regional meetings, and organizational gatherings.

Compensation & Benefits:

The estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $165,000-$200,000. Final offers will be based on the candidate'sgeographic location, consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
