The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

The Vice President of Fundraising, Event Experience & Operations oversees the strategic execution and operation of all Society-produced fundraising events-ensuring they are not only well-executed but also aligned with revenue goals, operational plans, and expense targets. This role reflects the organization's evolving strategy and the growing importance of delivering integrated, mission-driven experiences at scale.

In addition, the Vice President unifies multiple functions under one cohesive leadership structure-including event experience, event production, inbound/outbound call center operations, and a centralized team supporting national fundraising. As both a seasoned operator and a strategic thought partner, this leader translates big-picture vision into actionable, high-quality execution. They collaborate closely with cross-functional event and fundraising leaders to ensure their goals are brought to life with excellence, efficiency, and innovation, building the systems, teams, and partnerships needed to deliver meaningful engagement and sustained operational success.

This highly collaborative role provides strategic leadership across multiple regions, managing diverse teams to drive event success. Additionally, the VP serves as a key collaborator and thought partner, working closely with Regional Leaders, Development Vice Presidents, and reports to the SVP of Peer to Peer and Event Fundraising to align and optimize fundraising efforts.

Event Production and Operations

  • Design and implement a holistic event production strategy that upholds the organization's mission, maximizes event revenue, optimizes expense management, and delivers a cohesive brand experience.

  • Translate the vision of internal event leaders into high-quality execution, while serving as a strategic thought partner in shaping event experiences that align with organizational goals.

  • Oversee the event production lifecycle and direct all phases of event production-from concept through execution-including planning, logistics, vendor management, on-site coordination, and post-event evaluation

  • Ensure exceptional event experiences that create memorable, mission-driven experiences for donors, attendees, volunteers, and stakeholders.

  • Innovate and scale event formats, tools, and processes to improve audience experience and efficiency.

  • Collaborate across departments (development, marketing, programs, finance, legal, risk management) to ensure unified execution and compliance.

  • Manage event budgets, tracking key metrics to enhance future planning, including key performance indicators (KPIs), post-event analysis, and integrated learnings into future planning.

Event Volunteer Engagement

  • Lead the Society's Event Volunteer Engagement strategies and build future-state strategies by thoughtfully evaluating existing practices, identifying areas of strength, and creating new innovative, scalable approaches to create a best-in-class volunteer experience.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to evolve event volunteer engagement models that reflect organizational values and emerging best practices.

  • Lead efforts to attract, onboard, and retain event volunteers, ensuring a diverse and committed volunteer base.

  • Build innovative, scalable and streamlined best-in-class models for volunteer satisfaction and engagement.

Centralized Fundraising Support

  • Oversee call center operations, integrating them into event fundraising strategies for seamless coordination and service excellence. Ensure consistent, high-quality support through performance metrics, training, and data analysis.

  • Oversee a National Teams strategy to ensure delivery of essential administrative, logistical, and constituent support.

  • In collaboration with P2P and Signature Events VPs and Marketing, ensure alignment between fundraising and marketing operations and processes.

  • Partner with technology and marketing teams to implement new tools and solutions, such as constituent fundraising tools, mass-communication tools, and AI and predictive analytics, to enhance fundraising operations, participant fundraising, volunteer engagement, and event experiences.

  • In collaboration with technology, ensure alignment between fundraising and technology systems, driving continuous improvement in current and future event management and volunteer engagement platforms.

  • Ensure smooth adoption of emerging technologies within Development to drive efficiency and long-term engagement of technology tools.

Leadership | Management

  • Provide strong, visible leadership within Development Leadership, serving as a key strategic partner and collaborator across departments, regions and boards.

  • Cultivate leadership excellence by coaching and mentoring direct reports, setting clear, measurable goals aligned with the Society's mission, and delegating responsibilities to empower leaders in driving team-wide objectives.

Required qualifications

  • 10+ years of demonstrated and relevant development event experience (including 6 years of team leadership and supervision); demonstrated success managing large-scale fundraising events.

  • Demonstrated success in senior-level nonprofit roles with increasing responsibility, leading the production and execution of large-scale, multi-market fundraising events.

  • Skilled in mobilizing volunteers, managing cross-regional logistics, and delivering high-impact experiences that drive multi-million-dollar revenue outcomes.

  • Deep understanding of CRM systems, AI tools, and predictive analytics to optimize event production workflows and enhance volunteer engagement processes. Leverages data to forecast trends, improve volunteer retention, personalize outreach, and drive informed decisions that maximize event impact and fundraising success.

  • Strong project management with experience in managing complex projects, developing strategic roadmaps, and effectively allocating resources.

  • Extensive experience managing geographically dispersed teams, in remote and hybrid environments, overseeing both revenue generation and project execution.

  • Strong ability to perform under pressure, handle criticism professionally, and consistently meet fundraising commitments.

  • Field-based role requiring up to 50% travel, including events, training, regional meetings, and organizational gatherings.

Compensation & Benefits:

The estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $165,000-$200,000. Final offers will be based on the candidate'sgeographic location, consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
