Basic Function:

The Payables Accountant performs a variety of intermediate and advanced Payable functions that may include, but are not limited to, the payment of Association bills and patronage dividend distributions, expense claim processing, ACH processing, journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, audit assistance, tax information filing, maintenance and user support for various accounts payable systems, and back-up assistance, as needed, to the Cash Operations Accountants. He/she has knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and can apply that knowledge to assigned tasks. Collaborates as a subject matter expert with various teams on the set-up of accounting systems, issue resolution, and testing to continuously improve processes and procedures. The incumbent has the ability to represent the Accounting Department and American AgCredit through correspondence with vendors, auditors, and internal personnel in a timely and professional manner.

Essential Duties:

Payables Accountant:

  • Share the responsibilities of the Associate Payables Accountant role, plus the following...
  • Process payments for special programs such as, the Association's patronage dividend program, the Telecom Expense Management program, and monthly rents on a timely basis, including processing voids and reissues, as needed.
  • Ensure that any exceptions in the check payment fraud control files (Positive Pay) are reviewed and decisioned timely.
  • Track and reconcile Mineral income.
  • Ensure compliance with Franchise Tax Board Information Return filing by submitting the monthly EDD Information Return file timely.
  • Provide back-up assistance to the Cash Operations Accountants, as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, processing outgoing wires and daily ACH transactions for borrower loan disbursements and/or collections, daily bank deposits, and ensuring all monetary transactions are properly identified and recorded in the general ledger and loan systems.

Levels of Supervision Exercised and Received:

Incumbent works independently under the general direction of the Director of Cash Operations. He/she exercises no supervision of others. He/she makes some independent decisions.

Typical Education and Experience:

All Payables Accountants

  • Proficient in the use of a PC, including e-mail, word processing, electronic spreadsheet software, and automated accounting applications.
  • Knowledge and experience of general accounting procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organizing and prioritizing work to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Payables Accountant

  • Associate's degree in Business, Accounting, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least four years accounting or business-related office experience.
  • Expanded knowledge and understanding of the Association's policies and procedures as they relate to accounts payable.
  • Ability to process transactions with elevated complexity.

Essential Requirements:

Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and work in a typical office setting. Employee will be sitting for extended periods of time and accomplishing work at a desk and work at a computer for an extended period of time. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to adequately convey ideas and work well with a team. Ability to talk and hear, sit and use their hands and fingers, and reach in all directions is essential in performance of the job. Some lifting and moving of items up to 25 pounds required. Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

PART-TIME REMOTE/HYBRID: These employees will work partly remote and partly onsite. Part-time remote employees will work with their managers to determine when and how often they are needed onsite.

PAY RANGE:

Minimum $56,899.83 - Max $85,349.74 Annual

This range is reflective of the national salary average for this position and will be adjusted using geographic variance for physical location of the hired candidate. American AgCredit may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

  • Compensation, title, and job level may be adjusted based on candidate qualifications including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location.

  • Salary offered, within the applicable range, is one component of the total rewards package offered to candidates.
