Make your mark for patients
For our Seattle/Bainbridge Island, WA laboratory, UCB is seeking to hire a lab-based Research Associate I to support our Patient Solutions research by performing basic laboratory activities within our Structural Biology group. You will join a small and agile group supporting global teams on early drug discovery projects. We use multiple biophysical and near-atomic resolution methods to characterize therapeutic molecules and their targets across a range of modalities. Note: UCB will not sponsor the successful candidate for work authorization in the United States now or in the future.
Salary Range: $58,200 to $76,300
Major Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
- Develops solid grasp of structural biology lab techniques
- Independently completes setup and observation of protein crystallization experiments using robotic instruments, as well as harvests crystals for X-ray diffraction experiments
- Learns skillsets in research area (e.g. operation of X-ray generator or specialized instruments for collection of biophysical data) and retains skillsets for long-term development
- Performs experiments (may include X-ray diffraction data collection, biolayer interferometry - BLI, differential scanning fluorimetry - DSF and microscale thermophoresis - MST) alongside more experienced user and/or under supervision
- Supports presentation of lab data by senior staff as well as general lab maintenance and operation alongside more experienced users, adhering to standards of documentation and record keeping
- Collateral duties may be assigned in discussion with the manager, including tasks or projects that support corporate objectives, contribute to project teams or increase operational agility within the structural biology team
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline with 0 to 2 years of industry experience
- Standard biology/biochemical laboratory skills, ideally demonstrated through undergraduate research experience
- Demonstrated commitment to laboratory maintenance and safety protocols
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
