Looking to lead, mentor, and design impactful bridge projects?

Volkert is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to support our growing Southwest Region located in Houston or Round Rock, TX. This role is ideal for a licensed professional ready to lead complex bridge projects, mentor developing engineers, and strengthen client relationships across Texas - particularly with TxDOT.

This is a leadership role. You'll serve as a technical authority, mentor developing engineers, and play a key role in strengthening our TxDOT presence across the Southwest Region. What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and perform structural analysis and design of bridge and transportation structures
  • Oversee and review load ratings for bridges of varying types, sizes, and complexity
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control of calculations and design plans
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, agencies, and project stakeholders
  • Develop practical, cost-effective solutions that align with project budgets and schedules
  • Review construction submittals and provide technical guidance during project execution
  • Mentor and supervise Structural EITs and interns
  • Support business development efforts and assist with marketing bridge and structural services

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge design
  • TxDOT project experience (required)
  • Proficiency in OpenBridge Designer
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO bridge design specifications
  • Familiarity with TxDOT standards and manuals
  • Experience with rehabilitation and widening of existing bridges
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver's license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
