About the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs

Founded in 1990, the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is dedicated to educating the next generation of scholars and practitioners on distinct approaches to tackling real-world problems to advance the global human condition. As one of the first professional schools of international affairs situated at major technological institute, we provide comprehensive, interdisciplinary, multi-method, and flexible undergraduate and graduate social science programming at the nexus of science and technology, with special attention to strategic, political economy, and comparative political perspectives on international security, global development, and governance.

The Nunn School is multidisciplinary and focuses on understanding the global context of advances in science and technology. Georgia Tech is a top-ranked public research university situated in the heart of Atlanta, a vibrant city with great economic and cultural strengths. The Institute is a member of the University System of Georgia, the Georgia Research Alliance, and the Association of American Universities. The Nunn School is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). Nunn School faculty may hold joint appointments with other units across the Institute. Many Nunn School faculty conduct both sponsored and basic research with colleagues across the Institute.

Job Summary

Act as the primary administrative support for a school Chair providing office related services including correspondence and report preparation, maintaining files, meeting arrangements and related functions. May be responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Chair and Associate Chairs, Dean, School faculty members and staff, students and visitors. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA. This position may supervise: assigned office staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Manage calendar, coordinate meetings, make travel arrangements and plan events

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare correspondence and reports; may assist in collecting statistical data, conduct analyses, report preparation and presentations

Job Duty 3 -
Maintain office filing system

Job Duty 4 -
Provide administrative support to Associate Chair(s), as directed

Job Duty 5 -
Assist in coordination of administrative tasks of faculty searches

Job Duty 6 -
Make travel arrangements and process travel-related reimbursements

Job Duty 7 -
Assist with logistics of conference planning, seminars, special school events and development activities

Job Duty 8 -
Process HR paperwork for research faculty new hires and department affiliates; immigration paperwork

Job Duty 9 -
May coordinate recurring administrative processes in support of the chair which may include administrative aspects of re-appointments, promotions and tenure, etc.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours (due to client shift schedules, project requirements).

Required Experience
Four to six years of job related experience

Bachelor's Degree

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of the administrative processes and practices employed in a higher education academic office. Within this environment skills in event planning, organization, communications and customer service are required as is the use of office and specialized computer applications.

Salary: $27.16- $35.44/hourly

Other Information

Additional Responsibilities will include the following:

  1. Assist in managing the coordination of the school external advisory board.
  2. Oversee building maintenance and coordination for office assignments.
  3. Assist chair with external correspondence, development letters, outreach activities, communication with the external advisory board.
