About the Job

About the Job:
This position is within the laboratory of Manish Patel and Robert Kratzke at the University of Minnesota, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation. The employee will work under on designing and conducting experiments and analyzing data related to lung cancer and mesothelioma research in animals and humans. The position will predominantly involve laboratory research. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge late pre-clinical cancer research with a goal of developing candidate therapeutics for clinical translation. The employee will work in a collaborative environment with other members of the lab and interdisciplinary collaborators. Responsibilities will be carried out with instruction, guidance and direction from supervisor.

Research activities (90%)
Design and conduct complex laboratory experiments related to human and murine models of lung cancer and mesothelioma, and troubleshoot issues and determine solutions; optimize methods, and interpret results.
o Perform cell culture and maintain cell lines used in experiments.
o Independently Design experiments, including those utilizing animal models, and troubleshoot
o Assist with animal handling, including administration of drugs and other treatments.
o Have some degree of schedule flexibility to perform experiments requiring evening or weekend treatment of animals.
o Develop, conduct and analyze flow cytometry experiments and immunoblots.
o Perform DNA and RNA extraction from blood and tissue samples.
o Attend laboratory meetings and present research findings.
o Collect, organize, and analyze experiment data from laboratory experiments.
o Keep accurate and detailed records of all laboratory activities.
o Collaborate with other researchers and laboratory staff to achieve research goals, including contributing to the planning and design of experiments.
o Communicate regularly with team members to share data, troubleshoot experiments, and coordinate tasks.
o Contribute and assist with the preparation of scientific papers, presentations and posters.
o Assist and develop skills in grant writing.

Clinical Research (10%)
o May be able to help with clinical data collection for clinical research projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) plus at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and work experience to equal 6 years.
* Previous experience working in a laboratory; laboratory techniques, including cell culture and flow cytometry.
* Previous experience handling laboratory animals.

This position will require 5 days per week onsite on campus.

* Strong organizational and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to design and conduct laboratory experiments
o Attention to detail and the ability to accurately record and analyze data.
o Ability to work in a dynamic team environment, collaborating effectively with other members of the laboratory.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $41,600 - $69,264; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
