Position Description

The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling in the College of Education at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2026.

About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling offers competitive graduate programs that are growing both nationally and internationally. The Higher Education Program prepares administrators, researchers, and student affairs professionals for the field by engaging them in the theoretical, methodological, research, and practical aspects of higher education. The academic rigor of the program adheres to the expectations of a Carnegie Very High Research University. The Higher Education program includes four distinct programs: online Ph.D. in Higher Education, M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration (onsite and online), and certificates in Higher Education Leadership and Administration and Student Development and Academic Advisement.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Department Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling, you will be expected to:

  • Engage in active scholarship that results in peer-reviewed research publications and presentations that contribute to higher education research, practice, and scholarship.
  • Engage in a well-defined research agenda.
  • Apply for and manage external funding.
  • Actively collaborate with Higher Education faculty team members to deliver online and face-to-face courses in the Ph.D. and M.Ed. programs and HEAL and SDAA Certificates
  • Develop and teach graduate-level courses in higher education in both face-to-face and online formats.
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor graduate students.
  • Serve on master's thesis and doctoral dissertation committees.
  • Chair master's theses and doctoral dissertations.
  • Contribute to program development.
  • Engage in service at the program, department, college, and university levels.
  • Participate in academic/professional associations at the local, state, regional, and national/international levels.

Faculty Qualifications


  • A doctorate in Higher Education or closely related field awarded by August 2026.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct meaningful research in higher education.
  • Experience working with the breadth of student populations represented in Texas and U.S. higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Earned doctorate in Higher Education or a closely related field from a high research activity institution prior to the start of employment.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in postsecondary practice, administration, or in professional organizations that contribute to higher education.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level in all modalities - face-to-face, hybrid and online courses.
  • Experience teaching methods courses, including quantitative approaches and advanced statistical methods.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in various modalities.
  • Evidence of mentoring and advising doctoral students.
  • Evidence of maintaining a rigorous research agenda and publishing and presenting findings.
  • Experience contributing to or leading writing for extramural grant funding.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various higher education stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have an in-depth comprehension of higher education administration, organization, policy, and research. Additionally, the individual will have expertise and experience in the field, a substantive working knowledge of quantitative methodologies.
