About the Job

The Grants and Contracts Professional supports the development of funding for faculty sponsored research projects and programmatic initiatives in the School of Nursing. ONRS prides itself on providing a collaborative approach to reliable, through and comprehensive grant assistance to nursing faculty and student investigators. The Grants and Contracts Professional reports to the SoN Grants Manager and allows for hybrid work.

Key Responsibilities:

Grant Proposal Preparation and Award Management (70%)

  • Assist Grant Manager with grant proposal preparation. Responsibilities include: review sponsor's request for proposals, prepare timelines for submission, prepare administrative
    portions of the proposal; obtain subaward documentation, upload proposal documents into agency's grant system and budget development.
  • Assist with grant management functions such as progress reporting, no cost extensions, and other prior sponsor approval requests.
  • Provide guidance to faculty, students, and staff on grant-related questions.
  • Stay up to date on ever changing grant policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Relay this information to principal investigators as appropriate.
  • Independently prepare grant budgets and related documents for internally UMN-funded grant submissions.
  • Format, finalize and submit grant proposal applications in consultation with the grant Principal Investigator.
  • Assist faculty with the preparation and submission of grant-related documents (e.g., JITs, other support, contributed effort, human subjects training documentation, etc.).
  • Backup to Grant Manager when out of office.

Administration (25%)

  • Maintain electronic files on proposal and award activity.
  • Data entry of grant information into ONRS grant database.
  • Maintaining a calendar grant of activity.
  • Process with SoN faculty travel awards.
  • Process faculty research incentives.
  • Provide assistance and process posters printed through ONRS.
  • Order supplies for ONRS.

Development and Planning (5%)

  • Participate in SoN weekly meetings regarding current issues, policy updates, workload, processes.
  • Promote proposal readiness among faculty, particularly junior faculty.
  • Provide input on templates/job aids and additional guidance for new and experienced PIs to make processes more efficient and documents more thorough and accurate.
  • Continue professional development by attending relevant courses, workshops, seminars/webinars, professional society meetings and other training opportunities, both internal and external to the University of Minnesota.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree and 2 years of professional experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 6 years.
  • Experience in technology and software as related to the needs of the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Adobe, Google suite, etc.).
  • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed to successfully meet all deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with sponsored projects, especially with federal sponsors.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Administrative, financial, or other experience with clinical research.
  • Experience with electronic proposal submission systems such as Grants.gov, ASSIST and other grants management systems, sponsor grant databases (e.g., NIH RePORTER) and funding opportunity databases.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative, accountability, and follow-through on complex and sensitive issues.

Pay Range ($60,860.80-80,641.60) dependent upon qualifications and experience

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $29.29 - $38.77; depending on education/qualifications/experience
