Position Purpose
The Associate Director works strategically to advance community-engaged scholarship, teaching and learning at Dartmouth and will oversee a portfolio of work focused on creating community-driven experiential learning programming that delivers measurable impact for students, faculty, and the communities in which Dartmouth works. This role involves oversight and advancement of the Dartmouth Center for Social Impact's ( DCSI) curricular community-based learning programs, educational access and equity initiatives, immersion trips, and mentoring opportunities throughout the Upper Valley. This Associate Director will be a candidate with deep commitment to, and knowledge of, academia and the social sector.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Seven (7) + year's work experience working in community-based experiential education, the social sector, and or higher education.
  • Exceptional teaching and facilitation skills and the ability to excite, inspire, engage, and manage undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders (students, community partners, staff, etc.).
  • Deeply collaborative ability. Ability to listen to and understand needs from diverse constituencies and to identify the win/win opportunities for all involved.
  • Supervision and team management success.
  • Strong self-awareness, interpersonal and collaborative abilities; demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent project management, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to plan and prioritize work.
  • Celebration of and commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with experience communicating across multiple stakeholder groups (faculty, community partners, students, parents, administrators, etc.).
  • Excellent computer application skills (Word, Excel, database management, etc.).
  • Evening and weekend hours are required for scheduled initiatives. Occasional travel also required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or EdD Degree.
  • Experience in the social sector and/or working with community partners and nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience working with faculty or as a faculty member is preferable.

Description
Educational program strategy and management:

  • Develops and implements strategic plans for social impact educational programming, encompassing curriculum development, faculty partnerships, community collaborations, and cross-sector engagements.
  • Oversees the infrastructure and processes related to portfolio management, including budgeting, logistics, risk management, and assessment.
  • Manages and administers workflows for the team, providing supervision and guidance to both professional and student employees.

  • Advises students within specific programs, offering guidance on academic and career paths related to social impact.
  • Designs and delivers workshops and training sessions as part of DCSI's program offerings.

Alumni and Campus Liaison:

  • Collaborates with the director to cultivate and manage relationships with alumni, faculty, and community partners, aligning efforts with programming and DCSI goals.
  • Serves as an ambassador for the Center, fostering a positive image both on and off campus through active engagement and relationship-building.

Strategy and Priorities:

  • Collaborates with the director to establish strategic priorities and align them with DCSI and institutional missions.
  • Plays a key role in ensuring that programming activities are in sync with the Center's mission and learning objectives.
  • Contributes as a valuable member of the leadership team, actively shaping the direction and focus of the Center.
