Position Summary

The Precision Antimicrobial Laboratory of Dr. Zackery Bulman in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to fill a Research Specialist position in the area of microbiology (https://idg.pharmacy.uic.edu/research-2/bulman-lab/). The Research Specialist will primarily be responsible for the design and conduct of in vitro microbiology studies in the area of antimicrobial pharmacology.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with principal investigator to develop, prepare, and execute research projects including, but not limited to, the following: infection models, susceptibility testing, and antimicrobial resistance experiments.
  • Collect and document high-quality results and data that correspond to the research objectives.
  • Maintain updated experimental protocols outlining equipment setup, data collection and data evaluation.
  • Contribute material, prepare results, and assist in writing up findings.
  • Organize and prepare daily research activities.
  • Maintain well-organized laboratory space.
  • Monitor and maintain lab inventory.
  • Guide, train, and mentor lower-level researchers and students on techniques, methods, and procedures
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field required. Master's degree in science preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
  • Proficient in specific lab research techniques.


Preferred Qualifications
  • A person with experience working in a microbiology lab, are self-driven, organized, and can demonstrate proficiency in various lab techniques is preferred.
